I haven't shot it yet, as I am going to do load development with 250 Scenars for the class. They are loaded up, but between wind and schedule, haven't had time yet.
Nothing like last minute prep!

What part of Oregon are you heading too? Is it the range outside north of Grants Pass.

Thats pretty country, been along time since I've been through there but it's pretty well in the middle of no where just on the west side of the coast range.

How far do you live from there?

Sorry to hear about the flooding.
I shot both 250's and 300's, the larger top ports (2nd time around) really make a difference!

I'd guess somewhere between 250 and 300 miles on the road but probably 6 or 7 hrs driving time. Hwy 101 is a windy primarily 2 lane hwy and then as you'll see hwy 542 which runs through powers is a windy bugger. The cool thing is you'll be in the heart of some of the best trophy blacktail and roosevelt elk country there is. I used to hunt SE of there a ways when I was growing up on the east side of the coastal range and I've seen some monster blacktails. Hopefully during your trip you'll get to see some since they are a little bit different from what your used to seeing. By the way bring your rain gear, it's been an extremely wet spring this year. I'd love to make it down there but barring a miracle I don't see it happening. Just in case though send me the location and if something happens and I can get down there I can at least stop in and say hi.

I didn't know they even had an airport, at least one that could land anything bigger than a crop duster but I haven't been down there for years and then it was just to pass through. since you'll be flying over the cascades and coastal range you'll see some pretty country.

Did some load development today for the 338AX.
250 grain Scenars, and H-1000.
Had a four shot group shooting from the bench using a Harris BR bipod that measured .576, while the first three measured .256 at 100 yards.
I guess I will use that load
\:\)

I will chrono it when I get to Holland's I am hoping for 2850 fps.

It has almost surprised how much recoil reduction has taken place with the larger top port holes when shooting the 300 grain bullets.

just realized I never heard how things went on your trip to Hollands, what did you think of Oregon?

Re: Heading to Holland's - 06/03/2011 4:53 AM

We really enjoyed it.
This was my third time to go to Oregon and help teach a LR shooting school.
Erik had a great time, was able go to the Pacific Ocean, see sea lions, eat crab, and get a lot of shooting in.
He learned how to reticle range, and most importantly read and dope the wind on his own.
I was very proud of him.
The rifle shooters also learned a healthy respect for what a teen can do with a specialty handgun.

Re: Heading to Holland's - 06/03/2011 6:09 AM

sounds like a blast, I realize having grown up on the Pacific in CA and OR I take it for granted alot but it's a pretty cool place but I still want to move to Wyoming or Montana! Where you were the coastal mtns pull away from the ocean a bit but here they run right into it but it's all pretty country just too bad it's been taken over by lefties from CA.

Yeah I'd like to take some long range shooting lessons from you plus it would just be nice to be around people that enjoy the same sport.
