Seeing Cottonstalk's new toy inspired me to start this thread. I know most of you have posted beauty shots of your guns in the bragging board, but let's post 'em here in one thread -- a gun gallery if you will. You Freedom guys have some of the most beautiful revolvers built -- let's see 'em!

Posted By: wapitirod

Re: Beautiful Handguns Thread - Let's see 'em! - 04/28/2012 9:22 PM

Well the only lott I've built so far was on the heavy taper Bergara rifle barrel but it still kicked quite a bit harder than the Winchester on the pistol taper barrel. I have another pistol barrel I'll be rechambering in the near future and it will be in the Lott so I'll be able to compare better. The heavier lott would push back way harder than the win but the win has alot more muzzle rise and especially if you relax your grip.

I have taken several whitetails with it.

I get about 1250 Fps with 250 gr bullet and 50 gr Triple 7 fff. Mount Baldy was making bullets, but as I understand he no longer does. It takes special bullets as the bore is .488 to match .50 cal muzzle loader balls. Of course you could do one with a .500 or .510 bore. if you don't plan on also shooting balls.

I have found that if the bullets have lube on the side, that is not just in the grooves, recoil will cause the bullets to move forward since they are not crimped. I alway wipe the sides of my bullet as dry as I can get them and use a wonder wad behind the bullet for some extra lub.

Re: Beautiful Handguns Thread - Let's see 'em! - 05/01/2012 2:40 AM

Here is one that I thought was pretty nice looking but I ended up taking it back apart because it was too nasty on the recoil end to be safe. It had a factory barrel I turned the safety warning off of making it even lighter than original and I put the polished aluminum grip frame on it. This was more of an experiment in how light you could go with a single action. It was chambered in 454 and full house loads were flat out scary as the gun only weighed 2 lbs 5 oz's and with the short plow handle it would try to roll right out of my hand.
Posted By: Muddy

Re: Beautiful Handguns Thread - Let's see 'em! - 05/01/2012 3:01 AM

Your probably right, I thought I was a recoil junky until I started reading his post. My wrist are getting tired which is one reason I'm shooting my 454 more than my other bigger calibers now, but this 454 weighs a little more.

David why did you have to post that pic?

Thanks,
Before the brake......

...it had a 7 1/2" barrel.

Now with the brake....

...it's sporting a 9" tube.

I used it for three years without a brake and it was starting to take a tole on my wrist; with 385gr at 1500fps. With the same load, now; it's like a 44 mag. I let my 14yr son shoot it now.

A trio of FA model 83s. The top one is a 44 mag, 7.5 inch barrel. Sent to Magnaport for 4 ports, trigger job, and T'SOB base and rings. Leupold 2x scope.

The middle one is a 45 caliber, 6 inch barrel. Has cylinders in 454, 45 Colt, 45acp and 45 WM.

The bottom one is my first FA in 454. 7.5 inch magnaported barrel. Leupold base and rings and a Leupold 2x scope.

I had a 83 in 41 mag, but saw no real use for it, so instead on changing it to 44 mag, I sold it.

Ruger Bisley model in 475 Linebaugh built by Nightowl Customs in Utah. This is sorta my dream gun. I wanted a 475 Linebaugh that uses the original cutdown 45-70 brass. This gun is with Reeder now getting a few minor issues fixed. I have been shooting a Rimrock 400 grain and HS6 powder with excellent results.

Just a pic of various grip materials. The SRH sports Nill Grips, the Magnaport Stalker has cocobolo(finished with super glue). The USFA has english walnut from Scott Kolar. The model 625 has Ahrends grips in Red Raspberry. The SBH Hunter has grips from Badger.

Ruger SBH. Started out as a beat up 10 1/2 inch, I got for a song. Sent to Dave Clements for a massage. He shortened the barrel to 6.5 inch, action job, and installed a Bowen rear and a Patridge front. The grips are from Dick Thompson and in American Holly. He then did a fantastic job on the refinishing.

Thats pretty much how I obtained the JDJ, complete as you see it in the pic above. Picked it up from a fella online who needed money for another project. I paid $700 for it shipped to my local FFL, including the custom Williams brake, an action job and the new box of TC ammo. The Leupy scope and Georgia Jim wood alone will run you $700. To build a twin would cost ya $1500+.

Re: Beautiful Handguns Thread - Let's see 'em! - 05/28/2012 4:10 PM

Ruger Single-Six with custom grip frame.

Custom Ruger Blackhawk chambered in 218 Mashburn Bee.

Top right: T/C Contender chambered in 7mm GNR. Left: T/C Contender chambered in 257 Raptor. Center: T/C Contender chambered in 309 JDJ. All guns wear Weaver 2.5 x 8 scopes.

Top: Ruger Redhawk chambered in 429 GNR w/Bushnell Trophy 2 x 6 scope. Center: T/C Contender with Pirate barrel chambered in 356 GNR w/Leupold 4x scope. Bottom: Custom Ruger chambered in 510 GNR.

Here is the 510 GNR as I first had it built with a 8" barrel and scope.

I later replaced the barrel with a 6" and removed the scope.

Savage Striker in 260 Remington w/ Burris 3 x 12 scope.

Top: T/C Encore in 378 GNR w/Burris 2 x 7 scope. Bottom: T/C Contender in 221 Fireball w/Burris 3 x 12 scope.

Top left: Dan Wesson in 357 magnum. Top right: Ruger MKII w/red dot. Center: Ruger SBH w/Burris 3x scope.

Top: T/C Encore in 338 GNR w/Burris 2 x 7 scope. Bottom: T/C Encore in 6mm BR w/Leupold 2.5 x 8 scope.

Posted By: Randominator

Re: Beautiful Handguns Thread - Let's see 'em! - 05/28/2012 4:27 PM

The 378 GNR is a great caliber. I have more confidence in this round than any other. My gun shoots 225 gr. Hornady's, 260 gr. Nosler BT's and Accubonds, and 270 gr. Hornady's into 1.5" at 100 yards. The 260 grains travel at 2345 fps. and I can push the 225 grain bullets to almost 2500 fps. if I choose. It is overkill for many of the animals I have taken, but dead is dead.

Re: Beautiful Handguns Thread - Let's see 'em! - 07/05/2012 10:40 PM

Engraving is definitely an art and one which I won't even try but it's also a personal thing. I've thought I'd like an old Colt SAA or S&W Schofield with engraving and maybe a nice Henry or Winchester to match it but not for a work gun. I have a couple of the lazer engraved guns and they piss me off because I can part them out to build better guns out of them.

After spending a very long while looking at 20 pages of awesomeness, I have decided it would be a shame not to resurrect this thread.

I present to you the Prasac Plinker. A 44 Mag Super Blackhawk sporting a tapered 10.5inch tube and Hogue toadskins (monogrips).

Now lets see some more!

Re: Beautiful Handguns Thread - Let's see 'em! - 11/30/2013 1:37 PM

I agree! 20 pages of "I want that...and that....and that..." But here is what I DO have.

The top one is my custom 500JRH done by Jack Huntington. It used to be a beat up Ruger Super Blackhawk in 44mag. Next is the 460S&W Encore. Then the Colt Anaconda in 45 Colt. Yes, I said 45 Colt, not 44 mag. :-) Then my MKIII that now wears a scope. And last but CERTAINLY not least, my everyday carry gun, the #1 gun on my bucket list, the Springfield TRP that now wears wood grips. Best shooting 1911 I've ever had. Never failed no matter what I feed it.

yes sir. it started out as a 1963 .357 blackhawk. if you didnt know that the gun was a custom and not factory peice, you would think it was a factory built gun. it is my favorite mountain gun to pack.

Re: Beautiful Handguns Thread - Let's see 'em! - 12/05/2013 4:23 AM

Neat! That's the only way to get an old model 44 special blackawk. Took Ruger 55 years to decide to make one with their new model blackhawks. A lot of 3 screw 357s died and were resurrected during that half century.

Many of us are single action nuts and that in and of itself sidelines Smith & Wesson.

That said, I have Smith & Wessons I am very fond of and will never sell.

My .32 mag. Grips by Josh Jolley, 5.5" barrel Made and fitted by Alan Harton, SBH hammer spur by Alan as well.

.44 Special by Alan Harton. Originally a 3 screw OM BlackHawk .357 converted to .44 special, 5.5" Octogan barrel, custom base pin, #5 grip frame, walnut grips, bisley hammer installed. Case hardened by a guy local to Alan. This pic is a few years old now. A bit of wear on the barrel and cylinder now, just makes it look better in my opinion. I have taken it to Wyoming once and Arizona twice to hunt. Have taken deer with it and used it to dispatch a few animals on a trapline.

THE TOP 1 IS A MODEL OF 1989 IN 45 COLT (A RECENT ADDITION) THAT I WILL USE WITH MY OLD WEST LOADS (A 250 gr OTBC CAST FPRN @ AROUND 900 fps), AND THE BOTTOM 1 IS A 5 INCH MODEL 27 357 MAG THAT I HAVE OWNED AND USED FOR YEARS (I USE OTBC 158 gr CAST BULLETS IN IT). BOTH GUNS ARE WEARING STABILIZED ELK STAG GRIPS BY KEN DRISKILL. CLASSIC REVOLVERS.

Re: Beautiful Handguns Thread - Let's see 'em! - 12/27/2017 4:12 AM

I decked the frames on Both guns and Did the French Walnut scales. Notice how that French Walnut seems to have it's own personality? The 44 has more of a red hue to it than brown and the wood on the 22 has turned more yellow than the orange that it sometimes turns. Alan Harton did trigger and action jobs on both of them. He also fit the Bisley frame, and steel ERH, to the 44mag. Back in 2012 I could not find a Bisley in the short barrel configuration. So I had him do this one for me. I could not have been happier. This 44 has proven to be quite accurate. 44 has .002 cylinder gap and 2LB trigger.
The 22 has the plum color on the ERH and Load Gate. Having the 22 mag cylinder has been fun too. Lots of small game has fallen from the unerring accuracy of it. The 2LB trigger is clean and crisp.
Charles
Thanks for the help James

Very nice Pab. A lot of punch packed into that small package. BTW, I dig rubber grips too - more from a functional standpoint but I do prefer them.

Rubber Grips...."Form Follows Function"..."Cheap but Effective"

My 454's

45 Colt BisHunter with custom Micarta by Zane at LSCG. He did a nice job with palm swell and making them a little fat for me.

All dressed up and ready to go in a Von Ringler Wyoming Combination Holster (made for the BisHunter, works for the FA too) Simply Rugged Pancake for the 454 Redhawk backup gun.

Don't know how beautiful they are, but here's what I'm working with.

From top to bottom they are:

NM Blackhawk in .45 Colt with American Holly grips by Private Schultz. They look like they don't fit properly, but that's the poor camera angle. They fit perfectly.

Super Blackhawk in .44 magnum

NM Blackhawk in .357 magnum

I have yet to kill a deer with a handgun, but hoping to remedy that soon.

A new Bisley I picked up last spring, just a 357 mag, but for me the perfect 357 mag to own. Wormy pecan grips from a 100 year old barn beam,,

Re: Beautiful Handguns Thread - Let's see 'em! - 01/01/2019 2:01 AM

Just finished a trigger job and hammer spring replacement on my new toy. Barrel is (Thanks DAN L on SP) an OTT 20 Vartarg step barrel (1.25 Diameter) 16.5 inches long. May be some potential here. Scope is a Burris MTAC 6.5-20x50mm. Forearm is a Tony G Pillar Bedded. Temporary grip is a beautiful Dave D. red laminate, but Walnut grip to match forearm is being order. Cartridges are loaded with a light load of H4198 and 32 Gr Hornady V Max. Rest of course is a Fuzz work of art. I am guessing around 3300-3500? This thing is a HOOT to shoot. Cant wait to really have time to play with. Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas. I KNOW I did.
God Bless
Doug

New Super to the stable, sometimes ya just get lucky! New to me 357 Maximum, new it was nice from the sellers pic's, but I ain't sure this has ever shot anything but Mag's and Special's, and very few of them. No forcing cone erosion or flame cutting. Bluing is 99% a little wear on the muzzle and a tad on the front edge of cylinder, and the turn ring. What a way to start the new year.

I was really wanting to send this to Clements for a Turnbull frame and high polish blue. But I think Bill will rest easier if I find another to alter! This one will stay original even has the correct rear sight blade and adjustments, HAPPY NEW YEAR!

So I did what was asked and this is the tiny pic.com uploaded photo of my beautiful Model 329PD with a stainless steel cylinder replacing the titanium one it came with. Also added a Hogue X-frame recoil absorbing grip to it. Later it will be Mag-Na-Ported with dual trapezoidal ports. And Ken Kelly will also polish the hammer and the trigger of this revolver. I tried to post a better and clearer picture. Hope it works for you all.

5 1/2 INCH RUGER SINGLE SIX 22MAG/22lr, WHICH I HAVE SEMI "PERFECTED" WITH A 2 DOGS FRONT SIGHT, A No. 5 STYLE BELT MOUNTAIN BASE PIN AND SOME HOLLY WOOD GRIPS BY SIXSHOT. THE GRIPS ARE PLUMPER THAT THE FACTORY GRIPS AND I REALLY LIKE THE FEEL BETTER. THE 2 DOGS SIGHT IS AMAZING AND I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT (I GOT IT .110 WIDE vs. .125 WIDE). JUST PUT THE No. 5 BASE PIN IN THIS MORNING AND IN INFORMAL SHOOTING IN A 20mph WIND IT SURE SEEMED TO SHOOT BETTER WITH THE 22lr CYLINDER. HAVE NEVER SHOT IT WITH THE 22MAG CYLINDER. ACTION WORK AND A BETTER REAR SIGHT WOULD FINISH IT OUT, BUT IT IS JUST A PLINKER AND TRIGGER TIME TRAINER, SO FOR NOW I WILL KEEP IT AS IS.

ITS UNFORTUNATE BUT IT IS NOT A GOOD IDEA TO LEAVE YOUR TREASURES ON DISPLAY, IN SOME PLACES IT COULD BE ILLEGAL, AND IN MOST PLACES YOU ARE JUST RISKING LOSING THEM TO THEFT OR FIRE. MAYBE ONCE A YEAR, USUALLY ON CHRISTMAS DAY, WHEN MY WIFE AND I HOST A BUNCH OF FAMILY FOR LUNCH, I SET UP A DISPLAY OF A VARIETY OF FIREARMS, MOSTLY HANDGUNS, SOME ARE USERS, SOME ARE SENTIMENTAL, SOME ARE SAFE QUEENS, BUT ALL ARE NICE TO LOOK AT.

NOT THE BEST OF PICTURES BUT IT IS NOT EASY TO PHOTO THRU GLASS. ON THE RIGHT ARE SOME SEMI-AUTOS, A 30 MAUSER BROOMHANDLE, A GERMAN LUGER, A JAP NAMBU, A BROWNING HIGH POWER, A COLT 45 1911 WITH IVORY GRIPS, AND A COLT HAMMERLESS 380. ON THE LEFT ARE BANDED BARREL RUGER BISLEY CUSTOMS IN 500JRH, 475L WITH IVORY GRIPS AND 45 COLT WITH ELK STAG GRIPS, A LINEBAUGH RUGER REDHAWK IN 45 COLT AND A 5 INCH S&W 45 COLT. IN THE BOTTOM MIDDLE, LEFT SIDE ARE A NICKELED MODEL 53 WITH A 22 K-HORNET CYLINDER AND ELK STAG GRIPS, AN 8 INCH 38 SPECIAL TARGET PYTHON AND A NICKELED COLT BUNTLINE IN 44 SPECIAL, AND RIGHT SIDE ARE A COLT OFFICERS MODEL 22lr WITH ELK STAG GRIPS, A 8 3/8ths NICKELED MODEL 27 357 MAG WITH SAMBAR STAG GRIPS AND A COLT BUNTLINE IN 45 COLT WITH IMITATION GRIPS. THE RIFLES ARE A MODERN MADE 1895 IN 405 WINCHESTER, MY UNCLE JAMES RAUL "TIO RAUL" CHAMPION's MODEL 94 30-30 (PURCHASED RIGHT AFTER WWII), AND A FIRST YEAR, NO XTRA HOLES, PERCH BELLY STOCK, MODEL 99 IN 250-3000.

Re: Beautiful Handguns Thread - Let's see 'em! - 02/14/2020 3:40 PM

Ok 45MAN,
My 500 S&W has been bead-blasted by Cylinder and Slide. They set the barrel back for a .005 cylinder gap. Also did an action job and installed a fixed overtravel stop on back of the trigger. Bowen Classic Arms blackpowder chamfered the front of the cylinder and beveled the charging holes. Also, I installed a Bowen Classic Arms lanyard ring and lanyard system. Jack Huntington installed a McGivern big-dot gold front sight I purchased from Brownells installed. And I bought a Bowen Classic Arms Target steel rear adjustable sight for it.

Re: Beautiful Handguns Thread - Let's see 'em! - 02/14/2020 3:44 PM

My 460V S&W X-frame has had a Master Revolver Package action job and beveled charging holes with fixed overtravel stop on back of trigger done by the Performance Center at S&W.
A green-tube front sight install by the Performance Center. Bowen Classic Arms did all to my 460V that I described for my 500 S&W.

Re: Beautiful Handguns Thread - Let's see 'em! - 02/14/2020 3:48 PM

Cylinder and Slide bead-blasted the 460V also. I use Cylinder and Slide as my last stop because they take apart and measure every firearm to make sure it meets all specifications. Also, they offer a lifetime warranty on all revolvers and semi-auto firearms they do work on.

Re: Beautiful Handguns Thread - Let's see 'em! - 02/14/2020 5:54 PM

Cylinder and Slide set back the barrel on my 500 S&W because it had an out of specification overly large cylinder gap. They set the barrel back to close it to a standard .005 gap.

Last detail on both my X-frame revolvers is now complete. The Hillary Holes are no more and I am very happy. Original Precision came through with an excellent aftermarket solution to a problem.

Re: Beautiful Handguns Thread - Let's see 'em! - 02/23/2020 2:32 AM

This is my model 329PD with dual trapezoidal porting and polished hammer and trigger by Mag-Na-Port. The cylinder is a S&W stainless steel fluted model I bought from Brownells and I took off the titanium one it came with. Bowen Classic Arms black powder chamfered the front of the stainless cylinder and measured the chamber throats for shooting jacketed bullets. Also beveled the charging holes for easier loading.
The grip is a 500 S&W X-frame Hogue rubber grip with a sorbethane padded area where the hand grips at the back.

Re: Beautiful Handguns Thread - Let's see 'em! - 02/23/2020 2:41 AM

I also asked Mag-Na-Port to EDM aka electrical discharge machine metal from the rear V-blade on the S&W adjustable sight with a vertical line. They also put white in the line and it helps me line-up the red-tube front sight so much easier. I bought a Mepro tritium green front sight to add a more visible sight picture and will get it put on soon. It was on clearance on OpticsPlanet.com.

Re: Beautiful Handguns Thread - Let's see 'em! - 04/01/2020 2:22 AM

My 329PD is off to Cylinder and Slide so it will be done soon. I will have an action job and fixed-overtravel trigger stop installed, as well as a ball/detent crane-lock installed to keep the cylinder in line. And an aftermarket Mepro big dot green tritium front sight installed. Should be right for my CCW with Honey Badger 44 Special jacketed bullets loaded up.
