Mine likes 270gr Speer Gold Dots and 250gr. Nosler Partitions pushed by H110. They both shoot extremely well so I haven't bothered with anything else...

Whit,

You strike me as a gold plated kind of guy ;^) Be sure and let us know which publication and when. I almost pulled the trigger on an older DE in 44 a couple of years ago. I find them pretty intriguing.

Igor,

I've used my .44 and .50 Desert Eagles (with either 2x Leupolds or red dots) to harvest multiple white-tailed deer. The .44 shoots 4-6" @ 100yds with the old Speer 270gr. Gold Dots and will do 2-4" at 100 yds. with my handloads and a steady rest. I wouldn't hesitate to use them on something bigger than deer, I just haven't had the opportunity yet. I've had 4 Desert Eagle barrels in various lengths and all have been more accurate than I am capable of shooting offhand so that has really been the limiting factor.

Igor,

The cast bullets haven't work too well in the 41, 44, 50 Eagles. Two factors appear to account: polygonal rifling and the gas operation. They do function; however, not as well in my experience as with the jacketed bullets. I've had good luck and great accuracy with jacketed bullets from 170 - 220 in the 41; 180 - 270 in the 44; 300 - 385 in the 50.

Bob,
Thanks for details; it will help in defining direction where to go with handloads. I was experimenting a bit with Speer GD, Hornady XTP HP and Magtech (all 240 grs) and powders H110 and Lil’ Gun. Didn’t test it extensively but I noticed that H110 gave me better grouping than loads with Lil’ Gun
