Simmons Prohuntter Problems...

Simmons Prohuntter Problems... - 10/22/2012 1:01 AM

I've got an issue with zeroing my Simmons Prohunter. It's mounted on a Ruger 44 Magnm with the Weignad Mount. I got this whole thing on a trade, so I do not know the history.

I bore scoped it with my laser bore sight tool, and took it to the range. It seemed fine, after a slight Adjustment to the left. All of the sudden. I had to move it more and more to the left to bring the POI back to the POA. The wind age is all the way to the left now. I figured it was my shooting, not likely, but possible, so I took it home, and put the Bore sight tool in. The reticule is centered as I would expect.

I've had a few rifle scopes blow up in my big guns...but I've never seen one go to hell in this way. It doesn't seem to be enough recoil to blow a scope, bu who knows? 44 mag is certainly no 338 Lapua.

Has anyone else ever had a pisto scope go out like this?

Thanks
T

Yep. It's all solid as a rock. It shoots fine with my Williams Fire Sights. It seems the scope crapped out. I think I'll mount it on one of my rifles and see if it's the scope or the mount. The mount looks okay, but I'm not amiliar enough with the Weignad stuff to make a judgment.

Well if it shoots fine ith the sights I would say look for another scope or just use the sights. I had a Supe Redhawk do that only it did it both ways.

Good luck.

I had the same scope crap out on my Ruger SRH 454 in the same way. I agree with rlb if the iron sites are on then just run with them.

Shoot the Simmons and get another scope. Bought a new 44 with one on it lasted 6 shots. Started doing what you are running into.

Yep. I confirmed it on one of my rifles...the scope is shot. FORTUNATELY, I live in the KC area and can just drop the Simmons off at Bushnell to get it repaired. I think I'll just throw it on a .22 pistol and shoot the 44 with the Fire Sights. It's just so darned hard to see in low light, even with the fiber optic sites. It sure is sexy without a scope though!
