Need advice on a "Boomer"

Need advice on a "Boomer" - 01/01/2013 6:03 PM

Hey guys, I need some fun advice. My pot head neighbor burned his house down last fall and now is going to rebuild in a different location. This new location included cutting out a little oak grove behind and beside my house. Now they know that I shoot a lot into my own backstop/dirt birm and dont like it. They have admitted there is nothing they can say since we live in the country.

Now, what would be an economical big boomer that I and my buddies can shoot often and much to remind them of their poor decision. I have lots of 44mag reloads that didn't make the cut to use up but wondered what would be another choice. Pistol or rifle I dont care. My thought was perhaps an old 45-70 lever gun to shoot cheap lead to keep the price down. What do you think. Take this chance to live vicariously through me.

I would use a muzzle loader. They are pretty darn loud.

FWIW...

My 14in 357 Herrett was one of the loudest barrels I owned.

With that in mind, a 10in bottle neck is going to be loud-er.

A short barreled bottle neck. Even a short .22 Hornet is loud.

I have a savage striker in 308 with a factory muzzle break. I would bet that after a few round of that, the nieghbors from a mile around would want to move

No kidding. A 10" 223 barrel was the loudest thing I have ever heard shot.

Shot a K-Hornet from a 8 3/8" S&W K-frame and that SOB was loud along with muzzle flash....

My friend has a 14" 223 with a brake that is very loud and cheep to shoot. If it were me I would shoot it inside of a wash tub that is pointed toward their house. But the christian thing to do would be the opposite.

Gregg, I tried the Christian way, I prayed about this a lot, I was kind and turned the other cheek when they cut my trees down the first round before getting anything surveyed. I even didn't swear the first time he popped off to my wife. And I really like to swear, hey I'm even good at it. Nice guy Aron left the station a while ago. I agree I should be above this. But when my Mom called in Hospice for my Dad Last week, i reached my breaking point.

I have loud covered with my AR and 10mms. What I was looking for was that deep, rattle the china boom, shift the foundation thump, and did the world blow up sort of effect. The idea of a smoke pole would be cheap but too much time in between booms. Wink wink. Exploding targets are deffinitely in order. An elephant gun would be my choice but I want something everyone can enjoy. I don't have experience with big bore stuff to get the good rattle.

Gregg, I am not picking on you as I love the Lord too. This will be my release for lots of issues.

And I am not judging; just quoting from "tmaker."

Sometimes I believe The Lord empowers us to do His works on earth.

And I know that I am not a perfect man. I admit that I have done "the boomer thing" a time or two.

I. See nothing wrong with making the neighbor learn a little respect. An ar will do it nicely with an ak brake

A Mini-14 is way louder than an AR, I think it's because the bolt is recoil operated insted of gas, and all of the pressure goes out the front of the pipe. I remember shooting my Mini-14 at a indoor range, and the people on either side of me packed up and left. You may also want to try a black powder rig, but insted of wasting lead, try a plug of wax paper, I took out a hornets nest with one and it made my ears ring and dusted the nest without scratching the paint on the shed.

Not A SP but my vote would be for a short barreled (18-20in) shotgun. Have the buds over for a daily skeet shoot and kill 2 birds with one stone(loud&fun).

I prefer to be the ambassador of gun ownership to my neighbors. Why create another anti-gun voter?

Your AR and Tannerite targets, you can get their 10# pro packs for about 55 bucks.

Re: Need advice on a "Boomer" - 01/03/2013 1:01 AM

I am well familiar with tannerite. My other neighbor must spend half his check each week on this stuff. He made a 55 gallon drum go into a low earth orbit for halloween. This may be the way to go. Does anyone have blueprints for a cannon?

All true but dang, this sounds like FUN!

How about a Ruger BH in 30 carbine and Tannerite?

Did you mention that he had already cut down trees on YOUR property? Sounds like you have something right there...

Re: Need advice on a "Boomer" - 01/06/2013 12:43 AM

I just picked up an xp-100r in .260 rem. I took it to my parents house where we have a nice long range and after the first shot he came out of the house wondering what the h%^* I was shooting as HE said it was LOUDER than my braked .338 lapua. Mix in tannerite and you have a winning recipe.
However, I have to add the Christian response as well......

Any short barrel(10 inches or less) bottleneck will work. Rem didn't call it a Fireball for nothing.

Cannons are nice, something along thhe lines of 1 1/4 bore for golf balls or a 2 to 2 1/2in bore. They make a nice boom and concussion wave too, even without a projectile. Just point in the right direction about suppertime and [BOOOOOOOM]. Just call it your sundown salute!

I need to work on this cannon Idea. Fun and Patriotic.

Re: Need advice on a "Boomer" - 01/09/2013 1:40 AM

With the cannon you not only hear the BOOOOM you feel it.The concussion wave from a 2.5 in and 2 to 4 ounces of powder is sweet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
