FA .454 Casull - 09/10/2013 12:43 AM

I have a chance to buy Freedom Arms .454 premier grade with a four and three quarter inch barrel that has about every option on it including a .45 Colt cylinder and was kinda wondering if $2000 was a fair deal for it. thanks

Im guessing this is a used gun? $1800 would be a better price. I've picked up used Field grades for $1100, and Premiers with just a single cylinder for $1500-1600. I would say if you love it, and won't have to spend anymore cash sending it back to FA to change anything you don't like about it, than that might be a good buy. What other options does it have?

I have the Sept 1 2013 retail price list here... guns went up 3 percent this year. A standard Premier Grade 454 with extra cylinder retails for almost $2900 with no other options, ... then there's the 11 month wait.

I wouldn't consider this much of an incentive.

I just bought a like new premier grade with an extra 45lc cylinder, two sets of grips, and 3 front sight inserts for $1550.00. So, $2K can be beat.

well it has been magna-ported, has winewood grips and the replaceable bushing/forcing cone? option I think that's what they call it not too sure, and has had factory trigger job. It's only had about 30 rounds through it and it was ordered in the late 90's. The owner doesn't like the .454's nasty recoil so he just want's to sell it. I'm used to shooting the Linebaugh calibers and I already own a FA .475 and was kinda wanting a 5-shot .45 anyway and this deal popped up.I can get into cheaper than a converted Ruger. I was thinking $1800 to and I offered that to him and he said he had to have $2 grand

I think $2000 can be beat. If it is set up exactly how you would set it up.... maybe, but still high.

PG 454's were $1200-$1500 six months ago but are creeping up in price. I think maybe I'd give as high as $1700 with the extra cylinder. but that's me.

The replaceable forcing cone bushing is now obsolete, and FA will no longer replace them. They will change the barrel instead. The fact that this gun has one, means that it is an older gun, probably made between 1983-1990.
FOR ME, these replaceable cone guns are less desireable, and I would not pay $2,000.

I too think the price is too high. Keep looking as there are a lot of FA83s in .454 on the used gun market. JMHO.

i bought a very dressed up 4 3/4" 454 a couple of years ago and i got the trigger job, octagon barrel, 45 colt cylinder, which i've shot a few times at most, i got the faux ivory grips, fiber optic sights with a couple extra blades. it cost me through my dealer about 2500 bucks, so yeah i'd hold off on one that old since it has the replaceable bushing. ya don't need that anyway now that appropriate bullets for the cartridge have been established.

I would look for a custom Ruger. Atleast you wouldn't have to pack a tool and extra firing pin with you.
