Time to let a cat out of the .460 Rowland bag

I have been working with the 240gr Hornday XTP MAG in the .460 Rowland. Using Power Pistol the gun is easily spitting them at 1228fps with single digit extreme spreads and is super accurate. My particular barrel shows a tendency to shoot better with bullets sized .452" with the exception of the 265gr beartooth. I have just secured a supply of the bullets and ight now they are readily availible. Penitration is very good and even rivaled some 340gr hard casts from our .45 Colts at +P levels. The bullets expand enough to use on deer. Before trying them in your gun slug your bore to make sure things are not to tight. There was actualy room left to push them faster but no need to do so. reflex264

What problems did you encounter with the Beartooth??

In my .460 the 265gr has to be sized .451" to shoot great. .452" opens the 25 yard groups up to about 4". With the smae bullet at .451" it shoots right at 1". reflex264

Cat out of the bag, huh. How about buy them all up before posting.....Glad you can find the XTP's anywhere.

I tested them some years ago in my Rowland, and as I am using a 1911 I could not get them going quite as fast as your are with your Tupperware. In my limited testing, they seemed to be on the edge of opening reliably. No problem with the penetration though ;^)

I'm gonna really bear down on my 45 Super this weekend, to try and decide whether to use it this year. I had my Rowland out for a long testing session a couple of weeks ago, planning on trying the Barnes 185 XPB at super high velocity. The tapered bullet makes seating and the case web a snap, but the OAL to fit my 1911 mags placed the mouth of the case too far up the bullet ogive. Same with the Barnes 200 XPB. Gonna see what my Super will do with them this weekend, as well as a couple of Rim Rock 250 grainers, sized .451.

In my Rowland, those Rim Rocks seated and fed fine, with good velocity. But accuracy was not so good, and I had a lot of leading. I think it was probably gas blow by and lack of obturation. My Rowland seems to also prefer the .452 diameters. What I will be testing is a Kart barrel that I hand fitted earlier this summer. No comp so no full tilt boogey like you, but I think I can get the 250's going reasonably fast. I am hoping the Kart barrel and the insanely tight lock-up I have will reward me with a little accuracy.....In theory
