A Pleasant Surprise at the Range

A Pleasant Surprise at the Range - 11/17/2013 4:04 PM

After yesterday AM's duck hunt, I stole away to the range for some much needed range time to test some loads, sight in some guns, and confirm zero on a rig or two.

After shooting some long guns, I broke out my 338/284 XP to try some loads that I had worked up over H4064. After a couple of shots, I believe it confirmed that the 185 gr Barnes TSX is a keeper!

Here's a pic of the XP, followed by a pic of its' handiwork off the bipod (rear elevation controlled using a rolled up gun rug
)

Load development is DONE - now time for testing of terminal ballistics

That is fantastic for a 25 yard group

Now you need to back up and see how it does at 100.

....sometimes I just crack myself up....

In reality, if that is a 100 yard group, you certainly have a keeper.

98 - I figure if it works that well at 15 yards, why bother shooting any further?

It is, and I do! This was a Gunbroker purchase from late last year, so I was unsure of its' true potential, until now.

Since the thumbhole stock didn't dislocate my R thumb, I may keep it and save the spare HS stock for "our" next build

Cfish - limited out on woodies, no big ducks to speak of yet

KRal - I'll let you play with the XP's, and it'll be over for you...
