Availiblity of Reloading Components - 02/18/2014 6:53 PM

I was into Cabela's this past weekend and found 2 boxes of Hornady xtp 41 mag bullets. Needless to say I bought them both. I have had them ordered from another source and they have not been able to fill my order. I have found nothing online either. Lucky I guess. Shelves still look a little bare. Hope others are starting to have some luck.

My local store had over a dozen boxes each of .277" 130 grain SST and Interlock bullets, so I got two boxes of each. Needless to say, my 270 won't run out of ammunition any time soon. Now if they'd get some boxes of .452" XTP-Mags, I'd really be happy.

Not components, but the Wal-Mart in town has actually had ammo in multiple rifle and pistol calibers including .40 and 9mm! I think the snow storm delayed shipments so the retirees who normally clean them out to resell (I've seen them in action) didn't know what day it was arriving. Sadly they also limited purchases to one box, but that's better than nothing until I get my reloading stuff set back up and get some .40s loaded.

Yeah the retired people here do the same thing. I've heard them talk about it a handful of times. Resourceful old goats -- gotta give 'em that!

Dan that is optimism at its best. Ha Ha but I kinda don't believe you. I have started seeing some 9 mm but the gun shops and reloading component store I frequent will only allow 1 box of 22 long rifle and 1 box of 9mm. Cabela's did not have hardly any rifle bullets of any type on the shelves. There was more handgun bullets but most were bulk lead & coated bullets for target or competition shooting. Very little hunting bullets of any type.

I think we've all learned our lesson: when the shortages end, we need to build ourselves a decent stockpile of components. Somehow, I don't think these will be the last ammo/component shortages we ever see.

Kind of a "catch 22"

Lone Wolf I am sure you are correct in saying this will not be the last of the ammo/component shortages. Would like to be optimistic but; always that "but", it probably will rear its ugly head and reappear and we are not sure how long this mess will continue.

I have been seeing shelves starting to fill up again, but its hit or miss on most componenets. I just had my buddy call me from a store to see if i needed anything. I gave him a list that included 500 small rifle primers everything else was out of stock. He grab the last 700 they had in stock. Three days later they had 5000 sitting on the shelf. Powders and 22 seem to be lagging way behind.

That's what I've been seeing. Powder and 22s are still hard to find, but my local stores now have bullets, cases, and primers in stock. Even the Gander Mountain in Paducah, Kentucky, which sold out of everything related to reloading, now has a few boxes of 1000 primers of various sizes.
