Ruger Blackhawk Grips

Good evening everyone.
I have a Ruger Blackhawk in 41 magnum and am looking to change the grip. I cannot shoot very well with the stock grips as I have big hands and the grips feel too small to me.

Does anybody have the Pachmayr grips on theirs? I wondered if these added any extra width to the grip.
I have looked over the Houge wood grips, but they look too bulky to me on a blackhawk.I do like the fact that one can get them with finger groves.

If anyone has suggestions on other grips, I would appreciate it.

I put the pachmayrs on for the same reason. Much better now. Gained a little bit of length and some breadth. I am not a fan of Houge grips.

I hate the looks of rubber grips on my single actions......but love the way they feel!! I have Pach's on a Super BH. They are awesome.

If you need big the Hogue rubber grips are larger than the Pachmayrs .I like the Pachmayrs better though as they fit me better.

I have an original (non-finger-groove) Pachmayr stock on one of my SBH's. Comparing this to a factory-original SBH, the Pachmayr stock is narrower (port to starboard) at the heel, and wider (fore-to-aft) overall, as it covers the entire grip frame and includes a little extra material to fill the "squared" area of the trigger guard.

It is an exceptionally ugly stock. But what it lacks in that department, it makes up for in comfort.

Houges are vary bulky. plus 1 to RedSS but my pacs still dont quite cut it. still looking good luck.

Thanks everyone. I don't like the looks of rubber grips either, but they have got to be prettier than the cheap black plastic that's there now!

I tried on a set of rubber Houge grips yesterday. They fit well but are fugly. I'll buy a set of pacs to use for now. I just need to get some time and make my own set.

Hogue also makes regular grip panels other than the monogrip style. I have a set of their Bisley panels and they are a bit fatter than the Ruger factory ones. I don't know if their BH panels are also thicker but it might be worth looking into.

You might also check out the Eagle grip co.There are also custom grip makers that make grips off of a tracing of your hand. You might give them a try.

Brenden houge rubbers are that. had a set on my Dan Wesson and liked them more than any pacs ive tried.

I have large hands too and I ordered checkered Rosewood and regular rosewood from the Ruger online Store and they are thicker than the factory grips that come on most of their guns and feel much better in my hands. The Checkered grips went on my SS Old Army which had the old standard walnut and the smooth went on a newer 45 Blackhawk with the internal lock, the original grips were the black rubber/plastic. Both guns fill my hand much better now.

I took a set of old beat up grips and glued 1/8 inch laminate to the backs, i then cut and added filler and sanded to shape of grips it really fattened them up and it fits my hand great now.

I bought a ruger Blackhawk 357 mag this year and put a ultradot red dot scope on it. I am a big fellow at 6 ft 2" and 265# with big hands also. I could only get two fingers on the grips that came with it so I bought a set of rubber Houge grips.

Now I can get all three fingers on the grip. I love the feel of the grip and am shooting much better with the new grips. Some people would say that they are ugly but I am more concerned about performance than looks.

Amen to that. Pretty is as pretty does. I don't see them as ugly at all ,that may be because I've used them for 30+++ years. They still work better for me than anything else I've tried.

Well my blackhawk has new grips on it. I went with Houge. They don't look too bad. I kept telling my wife I hated to put them on as I didn't find them attractive. She said about the same as you guys; if it makes the gun usable, put them on.

With the stock grips, it looked like Ray Charles was shooting it. I've got some bad shooting habbits to break as well. I was shooting to the left hard, corrected that now I started heeling. Tight groups at 25 yards, but I'd better hold on the deer's hoof for a shoulder hit!

I have to say, shooting a rifle or my T/C pistol was a lot easier!
I do love the wheel guns though.

If I could get over this flu, I'd go out and sling lead! Need to try out those new grips.

Stay away from heavy loads for a while with the gun. You want to work on form so light loads will help.Watch hand placement and grip pressure,consistancy is what you are after . Find a good repeatable grip. The light loads will let you concentrate on form not recoil. Short easy sessions with the bigbores are best, with a lot of .22 with a similar gun thrown in.When you get tired or frustrated stop.Good habits are easy to learn with proper training ,bad habits are hard to break, when you get tired and frustrated bad habits sneak in. Shooting is more of a mental game than most realise ,stay positive, stay positive,stay positive, and know you will get this. It will come with good practice,and perseverance.
