RUGER ALASKAN 454 CASULL 5"

Lipsey's had a special on Ruger Alaskan 454 Casull in a 5" barrel. They only had a 1,000 of them and from what I understand sold out pretty quickly. Has anyone purchased one? If so, what are your thoughts on it?

I've got one, I bought it new about a week ago. It's called the Toklat, has the 5" slab sided barrel and comes with an additional set of sights, a v-notch rear and a brass bead front sight which I promptly installed. I haven't shot it yet, but it's a nice gun and balances very well. I'll post up a picture later.

Had a few minutes to shoot a cylinder full through it this morning, just ran some .45 Colt handloads through it. First shot was a bit high and slightly right, the next shot was slightly low and left but the next four were dead center about 1.5" low and I could cover the group with a nickel. I was shooting sitting down at about 15 yards.

The v-notch rear and brass bead front sight made accurate shooting a breeze. Recoil was minimal but again I wasn't shooting heavy loads either, but needless to say I was very impressed with its accuracy and it balances very nicely.

There is a Toklat in .454 at the local store also two Alaskans one .454 one .480 and a couple of the new S.R.Hawks a 7.5 and a 9.5 in .44 mag. They also quite a bit of .22 cci green tag all you want, and bulk packs with a limit. They also have a 4 in Redhawk in .45 colt I keep drooling over.

I talked to Lipsey's the other day and they will be bringing in another batch of the Toklat's. As soon as they arrive, I will be ordering one.

If Lipsey's are having another batch of Toklats manufactured, then I wonder if it would be a good time for those interested in a .480 version to contact them. Can't hurt to let them know there is a market for the bigger bore version.
