Anybody using lead bullets in their 375 Win T/C? - 02/16/2015 9:52 PM

Just picked up a used 12 inch MGM Contender barrel in 375 Win and would like to know if anybody is using lead bullets. There doesn't seem to be any Sierra or Hornady JFN's available, but my local shop has some 245gr LFN's available. Looking for suggested loads that would duplicate 38-55 velocities/pressures. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I don't have one, but did you see the 375 Win article under the "Member Articles" section?

Mech,

I use water quenched cast bullet, Lyman #375449, that I anneal the nose portion. Works like a Nosler Partition. Nose approx. 8 Brinnell, shank approx. 21 Brinell, with gas check. Nose expands approx. 2 calibers, sometimes rubs off upon contact, shank carries on through. I use them in 375 WCF and 375 JDJ handguns. Work as well as, perhaps better than jacketed.

I would look into the lehigh bullets discussed on another thread on this site. The recommended velocity is 1200 to 2800. I tried the 250 grain bullet and it worked pretty good in my water test. I will be trying the new 175 grain bullets this week I hope. I shoot them into a water tank and a wet paper packs. The rest of the 375 bullet I have tried do not expand at my 375 JDJ velocities.

TCTex has done a lot of work with that combo but he isn't on here much anymore. There is a good chance though if you send him a pm he'll respond.

I use flat nosed 250 gr. casts, gas checked in .375 JDJ, .375/.284. That flat nose does some damage on deer.

Hitman, are you running the LFN's at normal JDJ speeds, or are they reduced a bit?
