Springfield XD-M and 45 Super

I've got a Springfield XD-M in 45acp. It's my carry gun when I'm in the back woods, fly fishing, hiking, or whatever. Also for when I go to Denver cause of the double stack capability just to tick off the freakin #$*^*$&^%*^ Hilter loving $&*$^&#^@^%*%^ Pelosi kissin $#&$^#(%&$&$)&% tree huggin %$^#$*#&@^ communist liberals that outlawed this type of magazine.

Anyway, now that I got that out of my system....

I want to know if you guys have taken this exact gun, and run 45 Super through it. If so, what modifications did you make? Can this gun handle the 45 Super easily, and a lot of it? Also, is there a certain spring that can handle the 45 Super, and then turn around and still cycle the 45 ACP loads? What if I turn this into a dedicated 45 Super? Can the gun handle that??

I did a search, but didn't find anything with the XD-M and the 45 Super.

I came real close, I had an XDM .45 a little while back but oddly enough I never ran any SUPER through it. I would imagine that you'd be okay with Underwood level 45 Super through it but bone stock with no comp real warm loads (handloads that basically duplicate 460 Rowland) should probably be avoided.

Yeah I don't want to push it that hard, but I want to do more than just light 45 Super loads. I'm already planning on replacing the spring with a 22# spring, but wondering if I need to do any more than that to it.

With the 1911, you can use the external hammer and compression to retard slide velocity. Not so, with a striker fired gun. That leaves you with recoil spring/assembly, slide weight and barrel compensation.

Don't know whether anyone is doing threaded aftermarket barrels, but one with a comp would be the most helpful. A heavier weighted RSA is a must, to at least get you started. Been playing with a Glock 41 myself, and the consensus and what I have witnessed is that with my Glock, I can easily and readily see impacts with the polymer frame abuttment point, where the slide impacts. With my 41, a heavier spring gets me to mid-level Super. It takes the comp to go low Rowland.

If anyone makes a shock buffer for the XDM, that might help, as a disposable, to help the frame. I tried this in my 1911's with the Rowlands, but they got chewed up very quickly.

There used to be a Rowland discussion board, and I do remember some talk of "what about the XDM for the Rowland". If that is still around, there might be some thoughts.

And I guess my last thought is about case support. If you are going to run with the stock barrel, the case support, or lack thereof might be your limiter.

Paul, wouldnt it be easier to get a .460R conversion for your other Springfield? I know its not doublestack, but...?

Yeah Dewayne, I thought about doing the conversion on the TRP, but I just can't bring myself to do it. As you know, that 1911 is my baby. It is my everyday carry gun, and the one I am most confident in. I don't want to change a thing on that gun. If bad guys come in the house, that TRP is the first thing I'm grabbing, and the last thing they will see on this earth, other than the flash that comes out of the end of it.

I've really considered the 460R conversion, but the 45 Super will be plenty for what I need to do down here in the lower 48. Maybe I'll look at getting another 1911, and do the conversion to it. From what Craig said, I don't think I want to beat up my XDM that much. It's a sweet shooter as well, and I don't want to ruin that. I was hoping for an easier transition, but expecting the worst.

During a recent phone conversation, Rod was telling me of a gentleman in Alaska that was doing the conversions, then selling the gun already completed. Might see if I can track that fellow down too.

I just can't get excited over that 460R. The 45 Super interests me, and that's about the only conversion I think I'm gonna look at.

Ya, and you can do it without much modification. The Super has plenty of snuff for most situations you will encounter in the lower 48

I have an XD Tactacl in 9mm and 45 ACP what load are you shooting in the 45??

Stock self defense rounds. Federal Hydra-shocks. If I'm in back country, it's standard solid ball stuff.
