BFR 475 using 480 Ruger? - 01/01/2017 6:38 PM

I want to add a 480 Ruger to the stable, but prefer a single action, I don't necessarily care for a bisley grip, and most custom revolvers are simply out of my budget. That leaves me with few choices. My question is this: Would shooting 480 Ruger 99% of the time in the 475 BFR hurt anything? I know the "crud ring" would need to be cleaned from the cylinder after each range session, but would the 480 provide an acceptable level of accuracy in the 475 cylinder? I'm sure someone will ask "why not just shoot 475?" . The answer is I can't shoot absurdly recoiling guns for any amount of time and actually enjoy it. My right elbow and both hands are worn out from too many years of turning wrenches for a living. There's nothing wrong with my 44, but we all know that need has nothing to do with gettin a new shootin iron!

As far as accuracy you'll have to try it and see, but it will do no harm. One can always load 475 brass down to 480 performance with faster powders as well.

I have a BFR 475 L and love it. I can't see a problem shooting 480's in it although I have not. Loading 480 level in 475 brass is easy. All bullet weights I have tried [325 jacketed, 355 WFNGC, 400 WFNGC, 410 WFNGC, and 425 WFNGC] have performed extremely well at medium to heavy loading. In the medium category 14-15 gr HS-6 have shoot very well and recoil is very tolerable with the BFR.
