Looking for a Gunsmith

Looking for a Gunsmith - 02/13/2017 1:38 AM

Looking to rechamber 44 mag into a 444 marlin. I have a CVA Scout V2 pistol in 44 mag and would love to have it rechambered into a 444 marlin with porting.

Does anyone know of a good gunsmith to speak with to get this project started?

Thanks!
Mitchel

I suggest you contact SSK Industries or Mike Bellum. Both shops are knowledgeable on rechambering TCs. I would trust their opinion on determining if the Scout is strong enough to handle the 444 cartridge.

Im sure it will 243 and other rifle cartridges run higher pressures in the scout still either of those men should be able to do a decent rechamber for you I haven't dealt with JD but Mike Bellm is a great guy if he can't do it hell know who you should go to http://www.bellmtcs.com/store/index.php?cid=121
Can also look him up on Facebook

Thanks Guys,

I talked to Mike Bellm and he said this would be no problem. Have either of you had any work done with him. Is his porting as good as it sounds or is it more talk than action?

Thanks

I would also consider Chris Rhodes of Bayside Custom Gunworks.

Mike is as sharp a person as I have ever met. He is also the most meticulous person I have ever met. I spent a day with him going over the basics of how he cuts a chamber and does his porting. There was so much I was only able to absorb a small amount. One thing about mike is he refuses to use commercial reamers. He has a massive box of reamers he got when he took over P.O. Ackleys business. He uses these as blanks and makes his own reamers. His porting works as good as any and again he is meticulous as he cuts an expansion chamber like a brake would have which manga port doesn't do and with it being cut directly into the barrel there are no seams and the crowns are perfect even though they are recessed 1.5"-2" in from the muzzle of the barrel. If you ever get a chance to meet and watch him in person you will be impressed.
