One of Our OWN Shows IHMSA Guys 'HOW ITS DONE' - 07/26/2017 3:49 PM

This past Saturday July22,2017 C.M. Nash came to our IHMSA

monthly BIG BORE silhouette in Lincolnton Ga..

This was CM's first BIG BORE match. First time to the line.

He shot a PERFECT FORTY...

More amazingly, he used his stock TC Contender 30-30 w/factory

wally world Federal ammo.. A True Handgun Hunter..

l have been shooting this game 40 years in GA, SC. l have NEVER

seen it done before.. Congratulations Matthew !!!

A game with 40 steel silhouettes of 10 chickens, pigs, turkeys.

rams set @ 50-100-150-200 meters each. Two positions are used.

Standing or free style.. NO shooting sticks or props allowed.

Five shots allowed in 2 minutes on each bank of 5 animals..

NO rifles Allowed. Types of guns used are revolvers and

single shot pistols. No auto pistols permitted either...

For more information, go to the IHMSA website..

Personally, this is the only game in town that helps handgun

hunters shoot better... l have shot silhouettes since it first

began in the 70s. Back when Elgin Gates and J D Jones started

IHMSA... Still waiting on my FIRST FORTY

Matthew is a good shooter.
Got to spend some time with him this past fall.
It doesn't surprise me that he accomplished this.
GOOD SHOOTING MATTHEW!!!

Heres the link to the match.. Matthew used a HUNTING POSITION to

shoot from in freestyle... Basically he was sitting, knees

drawn up with gun supported on his knees.. As if he were siting

with his back to a tree or rock.. 0NLY 'Without' rock or tree..

NOBODY uses this position shooting freestyle in IHMSA silh..

90% of them use a modified Creedmore position where they lay on

their back, resting the gun on their legs.. NOT a Hunting Position

Thanks everyone for the kind words, and thanks SW282 for posting this.
I agree that IHMSA is worthwhile practice for handgun hunting. I am not a member of IHMSA, but most of the matches are open to the public. The people I have met at the matches have been most welcoming and helpful. Less like competitors and more like friends.
This was my first big bore match and visit to Little River Gun Club. I have visited Cherokee gun club several times to attend a match.
The matches nearest me are field pistol and smallbore. Field pistol is most likely to replicate hunting and challenge the hunters marksmanship. Firing straight walled cartridges from barrels less than 10 inches while standing at targets at distances of 25 to 100 yards is tough, the kind of tough that makes you a better shooter. I am still a long way from a 40 in that class.
I would encourage everyone to at least drop in at a match, see some guns and shooting, and if nothing else mingle with some folks serious about shooting handguns accurately.
Thanks again, Matthew Nash

Congratulations! I see this was in the "Any sight" category. Were you using a scope?

Re: One of Our OWN Shows IHMSA Guys 'HOW ITS DONE' - 07/27/2017 7:25 PM

Any Sight-means scope.. Matthew was using a pistol scope..

Mixmaster had a Leupold Vari X 3 rifle/varmint scope on his.

Mixmaster 223 is basically an AR15 with stock removed.

AR bolt is removed and substituted with a Bolt Action conversion.

Cartridges feed from a 5 rd AR15 magazine

Not sure how I feel about this statement.
It may be true in your area though.

I never saw this game being practical at all for hunting (In terms of shooting in the field at game), with the exception of developing off-hand shooting skill, shooting under pressure, and developing a good grip/trigger press skill-set.

I am not against this discipline.
I am happy for everyone that enjoys it.

I used a 14 inch 30/30 contender with a 2x-6x Bushnell Trophy at this match. This gun is a known performer and meatmaker.
More impressive than my 40 of 40 score was a perfect 40 fired by a revolver...with iron sights! I watched through 10x binoculars as the shooter willfully and intentionally knocked over the targets from 50 to 200 meters with the precision I previously only thought possible with a single shot. It was a Freedom Arms 353 chambered in 357 mag with 200 grain Hornady FTX bullets at approximately 1280 fps. Through the glass, I could see the bullets in flight. Several other shooters used their Freedom revolvers to good effect. I was amazed and my head has been reeling over the potential of those awesome wheelguns. My idea of what is possible with an accurate revolver has been changed forever .

Well built revolvers can shoot very small groups, even past 200 yards.
You have to have good equipment, but it is a systems approach with the shooter usually being the weakest link-At least that is the way it is with me.

As Ernie said, ''The weakest link being the SHOOTER''

l am not aware of perfect ''40'' ever being shot with a

''revolver'' from a ''Standing'' position in all the years of

IHMSA competition in Big Bore or Field Pistol. The ''40s'' shot

Saturday in Revolver class were shot ''Free Style''.. Ex-Laying

down off the leg in Modified Creedmore
