Had this been a common cartridge in the Redhawk at one time? It's the first one I remember seeing.

Local pawn shop has one at what I think may be a decent price.

Rolled in there to check out a new stainless 686+ and the Redhawk caught my eye.

Value?

You should buy it.

Not many of the RedHawk 357s around.

JMO should be in the 650-750 range

$675.

Was really looking at a Stainless 41 Blackhawk Bisley. No telling what I will do.

Let us know what you decide to do. I would love to see a photo of the Redhawk if you decide to get it.

Really torn on this one. Was actually looking to get into a stainless Blackhawk Bisley in 41 Mag or 45 Colt.

I know the Bisley 41s are not the easiest to find but then again these 357 Redhawks are scarcer than hens teeth from what I am finding and GB has 2 listed and they are high as could be.

Just wanting something that I can shoot those 30 yards and closer deer with. I know the 41 is a better deer cartridge and the 45 even better yet but honestly I have never had any issues killing them with a 223 or 22-250 so figure the 357 will work just fine if I go that route.

Only thing that turns me away from the Redhawk right now is it's a healthy sized revolver for the cartridge it houses and it wont pack as easy on my woods walks.

I do not mind some weight if I have a good holster and the added weight makes the gun even more fun to shoot.

In the Redhawk you'd be able to seat the 180 XTP long, in the second cannelure, and make room for a little more powder. It would make a dandy woods gun capable to 100 yards, IMO. I believe they only made about 5k of those guns or I might consider reaming it to 360DW.

Exactly the information I was needing. Was wondering if the lower ring would allow proper length or be too long.

I've taken 5 really heavy bodied WV bucks with my 6" Python from 60 to 90 yards with 158 gr. XTPs and Sierra JHCs. I'm sure 180s will work, but you'll get a little more shock damage from the 158s. These deer ran from 0 to 40 yards.
Redhawks are great. Love my 5 1/2" .44.

The SRH cylinder is about the same length as the SBH and BH. The 180 seated long will fit.

I agree with Doc, I'm not shy about using the 158 XTP in my 6" GeeP on deer. That cylinder is too short to seat the 180 in the second cannelure, or I would give it a go.

Maybe the price on the older 357 Redhawks will come down a little since Ruger is producing it again.

No reason that 357 Max brass couldn't be trimmed down to an appropriate length and run about any bullet at crimp length. Wouldn't be Maximum velocities but in between vanilla 357 & Maximum.

Probably a good place to be in a 5 1/2" barrel.

If anybody is interested in this Redhawk 357 shoot me a PM. I left it in favor of a 41.
