perfect bullet performance????? - 11/23/2017 1:46 AM

Going through my photos and came across a few pics that show nothing is written in stone with bullet performance...The gun was a DW 744 with 8" barrel installed.. Don`t remember the charge weight but I`am sure it had the 250gr Partition moving at a good clip... The game was a 200+lb boar that I hit with a 1/4 away shot.
The partition expanded as it always did...put a hurt on the lungs and began its exit on far shoulder... notice I say "began its exit" because as it traveled through the animal the bullet turned and was about to exit base first until the expanded petals were caught by the tough hide. Perhaps if I had a grain more powder it would have had complete penetration and no one would have been the wiser. But, as the photos show, it was stopped base forward............ Who would think that a fallows deer`s neck bone would stop a 260gr Partition from a Winchester 454 factory load at a distance of only 40 yards??? It did... For the most part, bullet performance is predictable, however, there is that rare instance when predictability goes out the window. So don`t be too surprised when you favorite hunting bullet should perform at a complete opposite of what you normally see..
Perfect bullet performance??? Only you know......

I remember when you first posted this, James. It just goes to show nothing is for granted.

If it can happen, it will. But, if the bullet hadn't worked/killed the deer, you'd never know

James......that's the ugliest fallow deer I've seen....lol. Your correct, bullets can and will do unpredictable things.

Anytime a bullet doesn?t do what it is supposed to do then IMHO that is indeed bullet failure. This approach will and has led us to better Bullets.

Hey James
Had the same thing happen in 2013 with my SSK Encore in 257AI using a Sierra 100 grain Pro-Hunter. Took this doe at 48 yards, she dropped on the spot. The bullet turned and tried to exit backwards. Here is the picture of it poking out the right side.

Bullets can do the craziest stuff.

Buck, I think we just started the smallest club in the hunting world...."The backward bullet boys club".....
As long as the bullet cleanly killed what I was shootin at, I could not care what it does.... percentages.....my recovered 41 mags that I wrote about showed that the A-frame is clearly a better performing bullet then the XTP while the Nolser partition`s were as serious a hunting bullet as you could buy, BUT, will I turn my back on partitions because of its performance pictured above??? My experience with the amount of animals I`ve cleanly killed with partitions tells me "not any time soon or till my supply runs out".....

I miss the partitions. The A frames are nice, and may even be a touch better but I've seen to many critters take a dirt nap as a result of partitions.
