SBHH Bisley 45 LC by Lipsey's

SBHH Bisley 45 LC by Lipsey's - 01/15/2019 3:12 PM

I contacted Lipsey's to ask if they would do another run of the SBHH Bisley in 45 and both Jason Cloessner (Cloessner@lipseys.com) and Chad Bell (Bell@lipseys.com) both responded and said they did want to do another run in the future. Not yet planned they said but if anyone is interested, drop them a note so they can gauge interest. If enough interest then they may increase the priority.

I blame Mr. Prasac's book for my search for the .45, thank you!

And for what it is worth, I reminded them a .454 could shoot the .45 so they could scratch two itches in the market.

Yep, your book also resulted in my buddy getting the S&W PC 460XVR previously discussed so the sickness is spreading. I settled for the 44 Mag Bisley SBHH but really want the 45. I like the FA grip but the BFR does not suite me so price-wise I just have to hope for Lipsey's to come thru....

There are a few of these around from a a past Ruger cleanup that show up for sale now and then, but if you are not willing to pay BFR prices, you probably wont find one at the price you want to pay. But having owned one since the introduction I have to say, it is one of the most accurate and consistent revolvers I own in 45 Colt. This thing loves the 340 grain WFN and gives the same results with the 250 WFN I cast. The molds were designed with the same nose profile with only the 340 designed with a gas check and 250 a plain base. The reason I chose the GC on the 340 was I wanted it mainly for 454 Casull loadings, but found it a perfect round for the SBBH for almost everything I use it for.

What I especially like about this gun in the hunter platform, is how it tends to shoot both bullets to the same POI. I credit this to the heavy barrel rib and weight of the scope out over it, keeping barrel rise more in check under recoil. The Hunter does this better than any revolver I own in any caliber or barrel length. Plus with the 340 cast hard would work for anything in this continent I would need it for, at reasonable range. That is becoming shorter and shorter though, the older I get. Know your limitations and this a very capable revolver.

I just hate to influence you any more, but what the heck, these guys have done the
same thing to me for decades, we call it help,,,,

I agree as much as I can with the 44 mag SBHH experience, BFR price is acceptable but the grip is not quite what I want so that's why I asked Ruger/Lipsey's about another run. Hopeful.

So your saying the BFR Bisley grip they came up with does not meet your needs and you choose to only use the Ruger Bisley style?

I'm a big fan of the Ruger Bisley, but in stock form it's a recipe for a busted middle knuckle on your shooting hand. Custom grips mitigate the problem. That said, BFR's Bisley is fantastic. No smashed knuckles, great control and it doesn't beat you up. The plow-handle on the BFR is a painful experience in the heavy kicking calibers (my first two .500 JRHs were downright painful to shoot with the factory Micarta grips. Here are the two different grips for comparison.

I would definitely love to have a SBHH Bisley 45 Colt, I know they had a run some years back but I never got one and I'm not going to drop big $$ on the used ones out there.
