CVA Scout V2 Pistol 6.5 CM Muzzle Brake - 02/24/2019 3:19 AM

Does anyone know who makes a comp / muzzle brake for these guns? Just got the gun and it had no information concerning the threads, etc. I know others on the forum own these guns. Any info / help is appreciated. Thanks.

This guy has done some testing.

I had my scout rechambered by Mike Bellm. I also had him cut his custom brake and crown. I can say it really works well with the 444 marlin recoil!

RSW,
Is the barrel already threaded?

Ernie my dealer got in five of six of them. No information in the box on what the thread is. They are pre threaded with a muzzle protector nut.

As far as I know the 300 Blackout and 6.5 are the only two of the Scouts with a factory threaded barrel.

I have my 357 Maximum Scout threaded for a HLR 3 Gill Muzzle Brake, and I believe it is 5/8-24 thread. The thread on the 6.5 looked smaller in diameter than 5/8 to me. Possibly 9/16. If I get a minute next week I will try and determine what the thread is.

Per a call to CVA yesterday, it is supposed to be 5/8-24.
I will run by the gun shop this morning and see if my 5/8-24 Scout brake screws on the 6.5 Creed.

I had my barrel threaded for the 5/8-24 HLR 3-Gill Brake. The 357 Scout was not factory threaded.

The information from CVA was correct. The thread is 5/8-24.
With a 4 Gill Brake the 6.5 should not be bad to shoot at all.

Bob, I would like to find a ready made muzzle brake instead of having to have a gunsmith ream it out. What muzzle brakes would you, Ernie, or others on the forum recommend?

Ryan Pierce of http://www.piercisionrifles.com/ makes a good self-timing brake. His website is down right now, though.

Try 319-389-1069

Thanks Ernie, I've been looking at a couple of clamp on brakes. The CSR 3 port and the Impact Precision 2 port. Both had about the same ranking in the test performed by Precision Rifle. I think Ryan Pierce now owns CSR or am I mistaken? Thanks again for the info.

Not sure if he owns CSR or not. Call him or message him on FB.
He is one of the good guys.

Re: CVA Scout V2 Pistol 6.5 CM Muzzle Brake - 03/11/2019 1:41 PM

Ernie......thanks for your help. Years ago I shot Contenders in 30-30, 357 MAX, 45/70, etc., Ruger SA's and S&W DA's and XP's. Then I started shooting Bowling Pin Shoots, IDPA, PPC, and Glock shoots and forgot about hunting. Now I'm older and want to relax and I'm getting back to hunting. In the past I had killed everything from Blackbirds to Fox and Groundhogs with a handgun but no deer. Last year I decided I was going to hunt handgun only from now on! I bought a CVA Optima and killed a doe in ML early season. Then I took my S&W four inch 44 mag in the regular gun season and killed a small buck and a doe. Since then I bought two CVA Scout V2 pistols in 243 and the 6.5 mentioned in this thread. I feel like I've come back home at 67 years old! Thanks again for your help.
