I do more shooting in the summer typically.
What kinds of shooting outings do you want to do?
Comps?
Fun shoots?
load development?
Varminting?
Plinking?
Other?

I just acquired five new revolvers and if I ever get my reloading room up and going I would like to work up some loads for them.

ERNIE: OF ALL THINGS, ESPECIALLY FOR 45MAN, I WENT ON A LITTLE BINGE ON OCTAGON CONTENDER BARRELS IN 221 FB, 222 AND 22 HORNET, NOW TO GET THEM SCOPED AND SIGHTED IN FOR USE AS CRITTER GUNS. I ALSO HAVE SEVERAL REVOLVER PROJECTS, BETTER BE A LONG SUMMER.

Picked up a Taurus in 218 Bee and will see what she`s capable of at distance. Also will see what the new 10" barrel on my 44 Dan Wesson
is good for along with a new scope on FA`s 454 and S&W 657.

Have a 6.5 CM CVA Scout with a APA Little B muzzle brake. Hoping to find a scope for it so I can sight it in prior to deer season. August starts squirrel season so I can hunt a few whistle pigs in the next couple months.

My summer is going to be busy so I don't think I will get a PD trip in. Outside of that I plan to be practicing with my 454 SRH and iron sights. I'm not much of an iron sight user so this is a confidence building activity. I'm also working on fine tuning a 45-70 moose load for this fall. I found that AA1680 will replicate the Buffalo Barnes 300 gn speed of 2050fps from my pistol so i'm working with that.

I will be trying to teach my .308 Striker, 30/06 Encore and .480 BFR to play nice with no lead bullets, in order to comply with California's mandatory no lead requirement starting July 15th.

Practicing with my SRH 454 with my 45LC load. My 300gn casull loads hurt so, I loaded up some 45LC loads with 22.0 H-110 & 300 XTP Mag. Also, spending some time with my SRH 44mag and some 240gn XTP loads.

I've taken the scope off my Ruger Mark II to practice with open sights, and I've been shooting that on occasion. Still haven't had an opportunity to test my new 327 barrel, but that's on the agenda. My 221 Fireball is also going to get a workout.

Every trip to the range involves my XP in .284, so that one is a given.

Other than that, the Single Six my dad gave me is going to get a workout this summer in prepping for small game season. However, that single six is going to have some company.

My wife and two of my best friends got me a flintlock Pensylvania Fowler in .62 caliber. I already had the Issac Haynes rifle, but this fowler is something I've wanted for a while. Can't wait to get to dove season, and then small game season. I'm gonna be busy with this new flintlock, and dad's Single Six.

Just got news that I drew my cow elk tag, and my bear tag. Means the XP is gonna be busy this fall!

I have a new 15" MGM 223 barrel, as well as a new MGM barrel in 356 Winchester I need to work with. Still waiting for the muzzle brake to show up for the 356 Winchester. I am sure I will also work with my 260 Remington and 7.62X54R barrels as well. I am running Rifle Scopes on all of the Encore Barrels.

I also have a new G2 Contender I need to work with. It will see use with my 6.5x30 JDJ and 35 Bullberry barrels.

I have been shooting my older Contender with the Super 14 22LR barrel quite a bit at 100 yards. This is my cheap trigger time pistol. Loads of fun to break clay birds, and then break all the crumbs into too small of pieces to target. You can shoot till your trigger finger is sore on $20 in ammo, and no reloading required before doing it again. Everyone needs a 22.

I also shoot a Steel Challenge Match every month with my 617 and GP100 shooting 38 Specials. Both with open sights. I also have been shooting my Ruger MK III with a 30mm MatchDot II. Great trigger time as well.

I will be doing load development on several of my barrels. I have new barrels as well as some new bullets to work with.

Sighted in my Ruger with Gen1 SeeAll today. Also did a windage correction with the Encore .357 that has a Gen2 SeeAll. Next outing will with the Encore .44 to confirm zero.

My Weaver 2X scope has canted crosshairs that seem to have gotten worse. I'm a tad pi$$ed cause I've spent 2 days trying to get CS on phone with no luck.

I just brought home a Champion 8? AR500 steel to have a steel worthy of shooting my .454 SRH and 7/08 Encore in field positions from a little distance. Oh, I could do it with paper and a plywood target frame but what kind of sound would that make? I?m sure I?ll have plenty of ccw time with it as well.

OF THE MANY LOADING PROJECTS I HAVE ON MY LIST I GOT 3 OF THEM DONE THIS SUMMER. PICTURE ABOVE, ENTITLED "3 ACES" SHOWS, LEFT TO RIGHT: 1) A 45 COLT, NICKEL STARLINE CASE, FED 150 PRIMER, 9.0 grs OF UNIQUE, 255gr OTBC SWC, MV OUT OF A 4 INCH S&W 625 MOUNTAIN GUN IS 982fps. THIS LOAD SHOOTS REALLY WELL OUT OF THE MOUNTAIN GUN. THE 3 SHOT, JUST UNDER 1/2 INCH CENTER TO CENTER GROUP PICTURED JUST ABOVE THE "3 ACES" WAS THIS LOAD SHOT OFF A REST WITH A 2x SCOPED 625 6 1/2 INCHER @ 25 YARDS. THIS LOAD IS DEFINITELY A KEEPER FOR USE IN S&W REVOLVERS. 2) A 45 COLT "TOP BRASS" HEADSTAMPED CASE, FED 155M PRIMER, 21.5grs OF VVN-110, 250gr OTBC RNFP, MV OUT OF A SS 5 1/2 INCH RUGER BISLEY CUSTOMIZED BY JRH IS 1,295fps. I WAS JUST TWEAKING/RE-CALIBRATING THIS LOAD, AS IT IS BASICALLY A LOAD I HAVE USED FOR MANY YEARS IN THIS JRH CUSTOM, AND WITH WHICH I HAVE KILLED 4 W/T BUCKS, A FALLOW BUCK, PLUS OTHER STUFF. MY GOAL WAS TO KEEP THE MV UNDER 1,300fps, WHICH I DID. THIS IS A REALLY GOOD SHOOTING LOAD IN MY BISLEY. 3) A STARLINE 480 RUGER CASE, FED 155M PRIMER, 20grs OF VVN-110, 340gr THUMPER BULLET, MV OUT OF A BRAD SHERMAN CUSTOM, BLUE, BANDED BARREL, DUAL CYLINDER (475L AND 480R) 5 1/2 INCH RUGER BISLEY (USING THE 480R CYLINDER) IS 1,215fps, FOR AN ACCURATE AND REASONABLY SHOOTABLE LOAD. MY GOAL WAS TO GET AROUND 1,200fps WITH THE 340gr THUMPER FOR AN EVERYDAY LOAD, AND MISSION ACCOMPLISHED. IF I NEED MORE OUT OF A 475 CALIBER I CAN GO TO THE 475L.

STILL GOT A LOT OF PROJECTS LEFT, BUT THE "3 ACES" GOT A LOT DONE FOR ME. TOMORROW (6/18/19) I AM GOING TO TRY SOME 250gr OTBC RNFP's OVER 9.5grs OF UNIQUE IN A 5 INCH BLUE S&W MODEL 25 45 COLT, AND 9.5 AND 10.0grs OF UNIQUE UNDER A PB 258gr PC'ed KEITH BULLET IN THE SCOPED 625. LAST WEEK THE 5 INCHER SEEMED TO LIKE THE 250gr BULLET, AND FOR THE SCOPED 625 I AM LOOKING FOR A GOOD HUNTING LOAD FOR DEER, HOGS AND AOUDAD CULLS.

Re: What kind of shooting will you do this summer? - 08/18/2019 6:00 PM

WENT TO MY RANGE THIS MORNING, DOWN ON THE RIO GRANDE, TRIED THE 9.5grs OF UNIQUE WITH THE 250gr OTBC RNFP LOAD IN MY 5 INCH S&W 45 COLT MODEL OF 1989. 90 DEGREES AND 16 MPH QUARTERING WINDS, BUT WITH OPEN SIGHTS, OFF A REST, THE LOAD WAS VERY PROMISING. HARD TO FOCUS WITH OPEN SIGHTS WHEN THE TARGET IS MOVING IN THE WIND. EASY EXTRACTION, AND CASES RESIZE TO FIT IN MY VERY TIGHT CHAMBERED LINEBAUGH 45 COLT REDHAWK. ALSO, THIS REVOLVER HAS ALWAYS SHOT HIGH AND THIS LOAD MAY GET IT DOWN WHERE IT NEEDS TO BE.

NEXT I TRIED THE 258gr PC'ed KEITHS IN MY 6 1/2 INCH MODEL 625 POWER PORT (ONLY ABOUT 6 INCHES IS RIFLED, THE REST IS THE PORT FORWARD OF THE FRONT SIGHT). IN THE PHOTO ABOVE, THE GROUP ON THE LEFT IS WITH 9.5grs OF UNIQUE, 5 SHOTS, 7/8ths OF AN INCH, CENTER TO CENTER, OFF A REST AT 25 YARDS, AND THE GROUP ON THE RIGHT IS WITH 10grs OF UNIQUE, 5 SHOTS, 1 INCH, CENTER TO CENTER, OFF A REST AT 25 YARDS. THE 9.5gr LOAD WAS DEAD ON AT 65 YARDS AND I HIT THE 6 1/2 INCH SWINGER ALL 5 TIMES I SHOT AT IT
(OFF A REST). THE 10gr LOAD WAS SHOOTING HIGH AT 65 YARDS AND,
IF I USE IT, I WILL HAVE TO TWEAK THE SIGHT SETTING. EASY EXTRACTION, AND ALL RESIZED SO AS TO FIT IN THE LINEBAUGH REDHAWK. I AM GOING TO THE HIGHPOINT THURSDAY AND WILL LOAD UP 25 OF THE 9.5gr LOAD FOR HUNTING AND CHRONOGRAPHING. AT THIS TIME I AM LEANING TOWARD THE 9.5gr LOAD OVER THE 10gr LOAD.

ALSO SIGHTED IN MY 7 1/2 INCH 327 SINGLE SEVEN WITH THE FEDERAL AMERICAN EAGLE 100gr LOAD. I RECENTLY WENT FROM OPEN SIGHTS AND
PUT A BURRIS FF3 ON IT.
