Handgun Hunter Tour Bus

Handgun Hunter Tour Bus - 09/01/2019 9:00 PM

Yeah Baby, kicking it up a notch!

I've been doing a lot of camping and fishing this year. I've come to the conclusion that I'm getting older, and it sucks. My buddies and I are now using a big 8 person tent and air mattresses, which is OK, but wanted something more.

I picked up a 1990 International School Bus from my church that they wanted to get rid of.

It hasn't been run in over a year, but my friend and I have been working on it a lot and have it ready for the state inspection.

We removed all but 4 passenger seats, replaced the batteries, got it purring like a big diesel kitten, and repaired the broken bottom entrance step. Did some touch up paint, and now it's ready for hunting season.

Plan to run it around VA for archery season and deer / fall turkey season.

Not much to look at, but it's freedom on wheels.

Free Seats! Come and get Em!

That is fantastic! I had a van long ago and it was awesome to be completely self contained. I applaud your project!

Looks almost long enough to have it's own indoor range!

It looks like a lot less work to set up and take down than my 12 X 18 Outfitter wall tent. I remember a bowhunting trip in Utah where it started to rain just as soon as we started to set up camp. Not an issue with The Bus.
I would be tempted to camo paint it being a HillBilly.

Thanks guys.
We've picked up a portable generator, lights, heaters and fans. So for this season, we will use those and our air mattresses. We always have coolers and plenty of water. Cooking in and on the campfire has become one of our greatest achievements. Don't tell my wife, but her cooking don't even come close to our campfire meals.
For next year, I plan to install some flooring, get a couple bunk beds, kitchen area, couch/seating installed and remove the remaining passenger seats.
It looks like I could drive around northern VA and pick up some decent free stuff listed on Craig's list too.
Got me thinking about an indoor shooting range too. Thanks N-Frame
No plans to go full mobile home, just add some creature comforts.
All because sleeping on the ground sucks, and setting up a tent is way to much work! 😀

BE CAREFUL WITH GENERATORS AND HEATERS IN AN ENCLOSED SPACE, CARBON MONOXIDE IS A REAL KILLER!

Maybe. Took it in for the state inspection and they found a hole in the muffler and a busted brake line. This toy is going to drain the bank. :-)
