375 raptor - 01/18/2020 5:13 PM

i posted this over at long range specialty pistols and no one had any info on this caliber. i was looking to see if anyone has shot one of these in an encore. MGM is obtaining reamers for the 375 raptor and will start offering them. any thoughts?

Looks like it?s a hair faster than a 375 JDJ with similar bullets. I see where it would be good for an auto or short action carbine. I don?t know if it would have any ballistic advantage in a SS handgun. But, ?I want to? is a perfectly valid reason here!

from what i can tell about 400 fps faster with 235's which is considerable. as you said don't need a reason

The 376 Steyr has it beat and has already shown what it can do in Single shot handguns...factory loads are available and reloading does. I had one in a Competitor single shot for years...it's a powerhouse

yep i looked at it also, I think this will give me what i am looking for without the recoil of the steyr. I have seen your bragging board posts with the steyr, it will kill!

400 FPS is much more than I thought it was. That will be a boomer for sure!

JUST MY GUESS, BUT IT WOULD NOT SURPRISE ME IF THE 375 RAPTOR AND THE 375 JDJ HAVE VIRTUALLY IDENTICAL BALLISTICS OUT OF SAME BARREL LENGTH ENCORES. HARD TO BELIEVE THAT A 400fps INCREASE EXISTS IF YOU USE THE SAME LENGTH ENCORE BARREL, BUT HOPEFULLY DAVE WILL DIVE IN AND THEN WE'LL SEE.

The difference in the Raptor and the JDJ is PRESSURE... the Raptor is a higher pressure round for a stronger action Encore vs Contender...400 fps sounds pretty accurate

just going off of what they have posted on their site. they have bullet weights from 175 lehigh to 300 grainers and barrel lengths from 10.5" to 20". i am just repeating their info, definitely not the inside track on this. however it seems that you can use the heavier bullets with polymer tips and or heavier jackets and get positive expansion. after working with the 375 winchester, this looks like a viable 375 cal with higher pressures with recoil about the same as a 308ish.
