240gr Lubaloy - 05/07/2020 11:15 PM

I`am taking a chance posting this cause I don`t think there`s many here who know what "Lubaloy" means, however here it is anyway...I bought a full box of Winchester`s old .44 240gr Lubaloy gas check bullets I found on Gun Broker because I had used Winchester ammunition loaded with that bullet and a early 7 1/2" blue Redhawk to take my first boar... I also bought a box of Remington`s version of that load but chose Winchester`s because it ran a little faster. Photo shows recovered bullets that gave good expansion. That Redhawk had a mirror smooth bore with no leading... I pulled one of the loaded Remington bullets and weighed the charge that came to an even 22.0grs of what looked like 2400... I don`t think there is any need to say " that was back in the day".....

I would be fascinated to know the actual bullet diameter with the lube wiped of, ahead of the gas check.

The "lube" appeared to be a copper wash over the lead slug.
