Muzzleloader bullets - 08/30/2020 2:15 AM

I know there are some traditional muzzleloader shooters here. My nephew just bought a TC White Mountain Carbine and is trying to find a full bore bullet to hunt with. What would you guys recommend? I told him I may have to pull out my TC Hawkins.

Had a TC white mountain carbine yrs ago. I used a hornady 385gr great plains bullet. Wonder if they still make them??? Shot a doe about 75 yards......put a hole out the other side about the size of a baseball. Lol.

Killed several deer with a T/C Renegade and the 425HPHB .54 cal Hornady Great Plains bullet. Excellent results every time.

I have killed several deer with the Thompson Center Cheap Shot all lead 240 grain hollow point. It shoots and kills good out of my CVA Optima V2 BP 14 inch pistol.

Thanks guys. He shot some sabots and said they wouldn't group. He wants to try some 295 grain Powerbelts. I know, not traditional. Has anyone tried these in a sidelock?

I have shot the Power belts in my old .50 flintlock and they shot good out to 100 yds which is as far as I tried them. I have built some muzzle loaders for people than they wanted to shoot roundball and bullets if they needed. They all shot the Hornady Great Plains with the wax lube on them. Very accurate. If he wants to try some different sabot/bullet combos, I can send you or him some from a ammo can full of stuff I have collected for sighting peoples muzzleloader for them to get best groups.

Check out No Excuses bullets. They make a long conical I use in my .45 caliber White rifle that's pretty accurate and easy to load/shoot.
