Primary Arms Microdot Question

Primary Arms Microdot Question - 09/29/2020 12:39 PM

Checking to see if anyone here has used one of these and may be able to weigh in on setting one up. A friend of mine has loaned me one to try and I can't seem to get it on paper at 50 yards.

It's about ten inches high and the down adjustment is maxed out. It's mounted on a standard Weaver base.

Any assistance you can provide would be appreciated.

If you haven't already, try adjusting it the opposite way; some red dots I have tried worked that way, ie. if you adjusted it down the red dot would move down, which would raise the point of impact.

The red dot acts like the front sight of iron sights.

So depending on what the "down" adjustment means: does it move the red dot down (poi up) or does it move the point of impact down (red dot up)?

The bottom line is to move the red dot to the point of impact, regardless of how the sight is marked.

Thank you Gregg.

I have the dot centered and in close proximity to the front sight in terms of position in hopes it would be close that way. It isn't.

I was wondering if a higher base/mount would help or just make it worse. I asked my friend if he had any ideas and his response was, "What do you expect from a red dot that costs less than $100?"

He also said these have less adjustment room than most. If no one has any ideas here I will give it back and purchase an Aimpoint. I was checking it more for size and fit on the gun than function as it is comparably sized to the Aimpoint I was looking at but also hoped to get a little shooting done with it as well.

That may help, not sure if that is the same as raising the dot optically within the screen.

If that sight is of poor quality it may not be worth messing with, especially if you plan to use it on a heavy recoiler.

If possible, shim under the front end of the weaver mount. Raising the front of mount will lower the POI. You may not be able to shim depending on the configuration of the mount.

Since it's on loan I won't be doing too much with it. A shim may work so maybe I'll give it a try.

I appreciate the responses.

I have a tough time believing that any red dot sight would not allow you to get on paper at 50 yards unless the sight itself was FUBAR or the mount was canted, putting it out of the adjustment range.

I would have to agree with you and I think the sight is FUBAR.
