Handgun Hunting State Records - 12/25/2020 7:54 AM

Do anyone know where can I find the state record for handguns for whitetails? Mainly I am looking for Mississippi and Louisiana

I think SCI keeps handgun records, but only for the people who actively entered them. I need to look into that, I've taken a few bucks that might be nice to have in there, even if not anywhere near the top.

Does SCI have a website?

SCI website: safariclub.org

Several years ago Safari Club International started a campaign to try to generate enough interest from handgun hunters to do a separate handgun hunting record book.

It was advertised in the SCI hunting mags, at the conventions, etc; I posted about it on here; SCI even sent me coupons to give out for reduced fees to enter your animals, etc. etc. But there was not enough interest so it never happened.

SCI still recognizes handgun entries but they go in the regular records book in the handgun category.

In order to view the online record book I believe you need to be a member.

Here is my mule deer; it was still number one handgun last time I checked.

Think its time for every handgun hunter to start shooting at the moon Greg if you know what mean. I know all states are not created equal when the topic of big whitetail surface in the main flow of a conversation. For those who do live where big whitetail lives and harvest them with a pistol needs to make sure they get reptable press. This will definitely cause a stir amongst the hunters. Right now if any of us would enter a good buck in any big buck contest, our entry would be placed in the gun division. Yes, a pistol is a gun but its a much more challenge of a hunt in harvesting. Just like archery or muzzleloader, they have their own division.

Unfortunately, NC, doesn't have any record book or record keeping for handgun kills.

WV doesn't even have "handgun" on their electronic check in site. Only rifle, bow, and muzzleloader. I've called several times to the DNR and they said it wasn't worth it since there are so few handgun hunters in WV. I cringe everytime I click on rifle on my check ins.
We handgunners are truly the "Rodney Dangerfield" of hunters in the US.
