10mm Wheel Gun

10mm Wheel Gun - 12/26/2020 1:00 AM

I have a Springfield TRP long slide. I shoot I open sights.

I am looking for a 10mm wheel gun. I have narrowed it down to a 6.5? S&W 610 or a Ruger Super Redhawk.

This gun will get a 2x B&L scope. Really wondering if someone has had a scoped one in either model and what kind of accuracy they were getting.

I also may do a 10? Contender barrel depending on what kind of info I get on the wheel gun.

I'm putting all 6 shots in a 3 inch black dot at 75 yards with my 610 with a Burris ff3. I'm sure it would tighten up with a scope and some magnification. This is with AA9 powder and 165 Sierra hollow points running 1390fps.

I have the 6.5" S&W Model 610 with UltraDot, reflex sight. This revolver shoots very well and I wouldn't hesitate to use it hunting. I've written reviews on the Ruger 10mm revolver and didn't like it nearly as much as the S&W. It is a large, heavy gun compared to the 610.

Ironically, I was in the woods this morning with the TRP Operator but didn't see anything to shoot.

I absolutely love my TRP 6" 10mm. I'm a big enough guy that I carry it daily. Open and concealed, either way. My Milt Sparks holster with an FBI cant makes it easy. Took it hunting this last fall hoping for a bear, but it didn't happen. Probably one of the sweetest shooting stock handguns I've ever had. Revolver or Semitauto. But then I changed the recoil spring, and it handled the heavy loads even better.

Never thought about a 10mm barrel on a TC. This idea intrigues me.

Kinda thinking the contender barrel would be a cheap date.
I have a scope

I like the idea of the Contender barrel as well although the 610 revolver seems like a real good idea.

Wondering what kind of increase in velocity you get from shooting the 10 in a Contender. Should give it a little bit I would think although after reading the various hunting posts from those who use it in the semiauto and revolver it doesn't appear to need any help.

Why a 10mm in a revolver instead of a 41 mag?

Because I already have all the 10mm ammo and dies.

In my mind the 44 mag is every bit as good if not better than the 41mag and I have 6 of those.

I don't need more brass bullets and dies for another caliber.

I see the semiautomatic but not the revolver need or want

I think everyone probably has a gun or two that nobody else sees the "need" for. But if it's what ya want, go for it!!! I've had a couple of those in my lifetime for sure. They were fun to me, and I don't care what the rest of y'all think about them!

I picked up a near new Factory 10" T/C barrel from Ed's I will play with it a bit. Should be fun to shoot. I have a 2X Leopold to go on it.

True I have 2 10mm revolvers and not one semi auto. Why because I want them.

You'll definitely see some velocity gains over either a revolver or semiauto, too. It'll probably be a sweet shooter out of that platform.
