Going to try something new

Going to try something new - 12/23/2021 2:24 PM

I am going to run some 165gr Partitions in my Encore. I loaded this first batch on the light side. After the cases are fireformed to the chamber I use a feeler gauge to set my full length sizing die so the case head clears the breach face by .001". Learned it from Mike Bellm before they case out with the headspace shims. they still go a bit over 2600fps so I will use them to hunt until I get them all fireformed. We are leaving at 12:00 today so I should have enough time to sight them in. After the brass is fit to the gun and will take a full power load I am expecting to reach 2750fps with that bullet. Good enough.

Great round in a Encore, I didn’t have a shot opportunity with it this season, I’m using the old 135 grain SSP

Nice! 👍🏻
I have one too. I’m running 125gr SST bullets through it for deer/pigs.

Well it worked. 1/2" groups at 100 yards. I had a legit monster buck just give me the slip. 147 yards when he was stopped but I couldn't see his head. When he moved he took off. I tried to holler at him to stop but didn't work. Last week of season. May get lucky.

Maybe a strange question, but which gun is the '06?
I ask because of the heavy forend on the one. Wondering if that was to help with recoil.
I have an Encore in 308 that I have been shooting factory Nosler 165gr Accubonds through it but havent chronographed them. I have factory furniture & wondered how the recoil compares. I was looking for an '06 barrel when I picked up the 308. Figured the 06 would require a brake for my tender hands.

My 30-06 DEFINATLY requires a brake for my tender hands. Pachmayrs grips are your friend Vance. Why beat yourself up if there is a fix.

The full fore end and bull barrel is the .260. That is a fore end made for sand bags. That guns has shot some groups under 1/4". The 3006 is pretty consistent shooting 1/2" groups. It is much easier to carry. The 3006 will get your attention but it isn't abusive. The absolute worse loads in it are comparable to a .500 Linebaugh. My general loads are like the hottest 44 mag you can imagine.
