686 finally groups

Lack of powder had slowed my accuracy search with my S&W 686 with a Vortex Venom 3-mildot sight but I think I am finally getting somewhere. Hornady 158gr. XTP over 13.5gr. of 2400 powder is producing 3/4" groups at 50 yards. Sighted in about 1/2" high at 50 yards I am hitting about 2-1/2" low at 95 yards. I would really like to borrow a chrony but don't know anyone with one. I am considering increasing the charge but am also wondering why. My main targets will be coyotes and groundhogs but I would really like to try for a hog in the future.

That should work great. Sounds like the gun is shooting great.

Teep where in Missouri do you live?
I am in the Houston Area (South Central).
I have a 4" barrel 686-5. It is a favorite handgun of mine.
My hunting revolver is a 9" barrel Super Redhawk in 480 Ruger.

I'm between Columbia and Fulton. I was at the handgun shoot at Houston last year mainly shooting my 617.

Teep I am the Club President at the Big Piney Sportsman's Club at Houston Missouri. I am sure we have met.

I have a Chronograph.

The Handgunners Get Together is scheduled for Sunday 25 September 2022. Come on dawn and have a great time shooting. We will have the Upper Multi-Purpose Range back up and running by then. Our Contractor is scheduled to start pouring the concrete floor the 15th of August. With luck by the end of August we will have all 12 shooting bench's concreted in, and the Roof back over it. The concrete floor will make it nice. We poured the floor under the Black Powder Cartridge Shooting Line a couple months ago. The Multi-Purpose Range is the last one to get a concrete floor.

If you cannot make the Get Together, or want to Chronograph sooner, we could meet on a Saturday or Sunday to Chronograph. The first two Saturdays of the Month are Steel Challenge and Two Gun. Both are normally finished by 2PM. The Third Sunday is Sporting Clays taking up most of the afternoon. I normally chronograph in D Bay on the Handgun Range. The Steel Challenge Shoot, and Two Gun Shoot are the only scheduled events in this Bay. Let me know.
