Barnes 130gr TSX in 30-30win - 01/24/2009 11:18 PM

Anyone know where I can find loads for the 110gr and 130gr Barnes tsx bullets in the 30-30 win for the Contender?

I'm not sure where you can find specific loads but I know if you use data for other manufacturers bullets you'll need to start at the minimum because the Barnes builds more pressure than the other bullets so you won't be able to load as hot as you could with a different bullet.

you probably already have this info but it is all I could find, as another thought I know of a couple custom barrel makers that recommend against using the barnes in a contender because of the pressure increas and performance decrease. You will have to chrono it but you may be below the minimum impact velocity by the time it gets to 100yds.

Warning! Notes: case: Winchester; case trim length: 2.030"; twist rate: 1:12"; primer: Fed GM210M; barrel length: 20"; barrel: Krieger; maximum loads should be used with caution; NOTE: The 130-grain TSX bullet has a spitzer ogive and is NOT suitable for use in tubular magazines. The COAL of cartridges loaded with this bullet is much longer than the SAAMI maximum, and is generally suitable for use only in single-shot firearms. The 130-grain TSX has a very short shank; we recommend using a factory crimp-style die to lightly crimp the case mouth to increase neck tension. Use a roll crimp on 150-grain TSX FN bullets when loading cartridges intended for rifles with tubular magazines.

Well I called Barnes and told them that I was getting an MGM bbl in 30-30win for use with their copper tsx bullet due to the lead ban in Ca. They have contender test bbl that they use for the 30-30 and told the 1-10 twist was find but nothing abouit it being to high pressure. The guy also suggested handloading the 110gr and 130gr. Now these are the "tripple shocks" not the original "X" bullet.

Thank you for the load data by the way!

I would think you would be fine loading the TSX with starting loads and working up. The TSX was designed to lessen the chmber pressure-thats what the bands are supposed to do. I love teh TSX and use it in ,y 308 and 30 caliber and 338 magnums. The old Barnes and Solids increased pressures dramatically becuse they were so much longer in comparison to others of identical weight. more bearing surface = higher pressure. JD Hones always cautioned with eht older barnes-I think he now endorses TSX.
