Also bought this barrel in package purchase today. I have never seen a crown this flat before. Of course I have never owned a 17 Remington barrel before. Is this normal? Thanks again in advance.

if I'm seeing the pictures correctly it is just like the crowns on my RUM's I used to have and what Remington is putting on it's rifles.

I have a Super 14 .222 Rem that looks like that.

i had sumthin(mighta been a 357mag, i forget) with a flat crown. some of the older barrels had flat crowns. the factory super 14 6tcu(1986-1989)had what i'd call a "life saver" type crown...kinnda rounded like a donut. there are different type crowns on different age barrels. not sure how many different ones.
