hunting shows... - 02/09/2009 2:18 PM

do you find certain shows that just turn your stomache??? i did this fine a.m.! its called "quest for the one" for the most part all these shows are getting to the point of being lousy but this quest show in my opinion is at the very lowest.
i appologize for grumbling but i got up and put "barney" our bassett out and turned the tube on and the guy running around with a rifle with what looked to be a freekin camcorder on the gun for a scope.they glass a huge bull elk which they insist will score 350 and say no....he's not the one.they continue and finally shoot a lesser bull and say this is the one and the guide and shooter hold up their pointer finger!"weve got the one!!!" they proclaim, well im done now but you just gotta see this cheesy, poorly made excuse of a show!

"The Bucks of Tecomate" is my personal favorite. David Morris and his daughters are some of the best actors I've ever seen. This pathetic excuse of a "shooting" show makes me sick. Just thinking about it pi$$3$ me off. I can't watch hunting shows anymore without getting worked up. Jim Shockey and Tred Barta are the two exceptions I can think of that are somewhat tolerable.

Yep, those two and Ted's "Spirit of the Wild" are really the only one's I watch. And, "Game Trails" once in a while when Larry W totes his Encore.

Shockey's good and you cant say Wadell dosent have balls. I went to the eastern hunting show in Harrisberg P.A. last weekend and got to meet Lee and Tiffany from "Getting Close". I have to admit they really are cool and down to earth. Im still waiting for word back on the resume i gave them ha ha ha

I really can't stomach most hunting shows anymore. IMHO the best hunting video ever produced is Primal Dreams by the Wensel brothers. This video captures the spirit of why I hunt and the feeling I get when I'm in the woods. Its a traditional archery video, but should appeal to anyone, no matter what weapon you hunt with. You can watch a preview/trailer on their site to get a feel for what the video is like. I love the clip with one of them packing out two whitetail bucks on his back! If there were more hunting shows like this, we would get more support from people who don't hunt.

Met Lee and Tiffany up there yesterday too,Both seemed really nice. To make a living hunting and to have your wife with you too, TOO COOL.

Its not your typical hunting video. Here is an article about the big buck (Woody) in the video clip.

I just have to agree that most hunting shows are a mess. The fake enthusiasm and BS just makes me sick. I wonder if any these people ever give any real thought to how the are representing our sport and hunters in general. I could make a list a mile long of the ones that get on my last nerve. However the cream always rises to the top. About the only ones I watch are the previously mentioned Tred Barta, and I agree Predator Quest seems to be another good one. My favorite is Heartland Bow Hunter.

Boonyrat,

I've got to agree - "Quest for The One" takes the cake for the worst on TV. And the host that is called one of the "winningest tournament hunters of all time" (
) is nauseating.

The others I can deal with in one way or another, but this one...not a chance.

I get tired of the fake views when the camera man is already way ahead of the hunters and is filming them while they stalk the animal or when the camers is in front of the gun when it goes off. I watched a deal a while back and I guess the latest thing to do is after you get the animal you film a recreation of the stalk from different angles. BS

Although it isn't really a hunting show, you must not have yet seen "The Bucks of Tecomate".

I only wish more of you guys could have a camera crew film your hunts...Now that would be a show I would watch.

Does anyone remember Fred Trost's Michigan Outdoors? That was the last time I can remember really enjoying a credible outdoor show. Truly, as an Eastern deer hunter I just can't comprehend being "surrounded" by shooter bucks everytime I go hunting as you see on these "canned hunt" shows. But I suppose if you're going to have a "hunting" show there would be little entertainment value if there were not actually game to film. But I certainly can't take any of them seriously. When you do see a shooter buck here in New Hampshire, (for those of you who haven't hunted eastern timber - picture hunting in a jungle where most shots are less than 25 yards!)you know you've done your homework, and you don't waste time pre-scoring the rack! You shoot!

If you want to see some good hunting footage go to You-tube watch 3 pigs in 3 shots and you will be hooked. I would bring the pro videos home from the hunting store but all my 7 year old wants to see is the real life stuff now. The staged stuff is very lack luster for him.

I don't watch to many hunting shows anymore because I think that alot of them are alot of put on. I do enjoy watching Ted Nugents spirit of the wild, and Jim Shockey's show.

anyone notice that Tiffany of Lee and Tiffany looks like she got a boob job. I swear I don't remember them things being that big, it's kind of a distraction from the hunting.

I was thinking the same thing Rod. A hunting buddy went and saw her and the hubby at a show a little while back. He had three things to comment on regarding Tiff. In order of enthusiasm on his part:

1) Boobs
2) Make-up
3) Intelligence or lack there of
