7-30 waters

I'm looking for advice to fire form some 30-30 brass into 7-30 waters I have not done this before and I don't want this to be a painful expierience.

I would use a medium to fast powder from the load book and use the bottom of the data on that powder. Be sure to seat the bullet right on the lands so that you do not have case head seperation. Fireform then trim-- you sould be good to go to what ever load you like then.

I think Federal still make ammo and brass for the 7-30.

yes they make it but it is hard to find a lot of time best is
30/30 brass not to hard of a job if i can do it any one can

That's how I got my brass originally, from firing factory fodder. I don't think Federal has ever sold the brass alone as a component, at least I've never come across any. You can use .375 Win brass for the Waters, and because you don't stress the neck area as much as you do when reforming 30-30 I think it will last longer. But then I could be mistaken ;-)

You would be taking a .375" case opening down to .284" compared to a .308" down to .284". You will also be moving/creating a shoulder from a case that was originally straight. Doing this will cause the necks to be much thicker than using 30-30 cases. This may cause a high pressure situation with the bullet/case neck being overly tight in the chamber neck. This all depends on how the chamber is cut.

How I do it.............

Put the barrel on the frame. Apply lube to a 30-30 case and size it down a little at a time until you can close the action snugly on a case. Load with a starting Waters load using a heavy for caliber bullet that can hopefully be seated to the lands.

Waters cases are about as easy to form as there is.

E. Arthur Brown sells the brass in bulk. I have 250 rds of their brass and it holds up well. It is resized 30-30 brass.

Federal has factory amo (when you can find it)it is 120 grn flat pt.

Yes Hunlee have 7-30 water barrel for Contender and fireform 30-30 has ben very good for hunlee!!!!!!!Hunlee use start load an seat bullit into land like said above!!!!!!Upon shooting of said round will result in 7-30 water brass!!!!!!!!7-30 water barrel of Hunlee is a grate long ranger and he has a nice Burris scope on there,,,,,,,3-12x power with billistic plex rectial,,,,,very nice and good for Hunlee

I just formed 50 rounds of 7-30 from new Rem. brass using the following sequence. It made sense and worked perfectly for me.

1) Run the new brass into a 30-30 die but only over the ball expander to make the case necks round so they can be deburred.
2) Deburr case mouth's.
3) Lube inside the neck with mica and outside with Dillon case lube on my finger and thumb.
4) I removed the ball expander from my 7-30 die and size the case, adjusting the die down untill it fits snug in my barrel then lock the die down and reinstall the ball expander.
5) Resize all the cases.
Note: This will leave two shoulders and necks on the cases because the 7-30 neck is quite a bit shorter than the 30-30.
My load recipe was to use a 100 gr. Hornady hollow point bullet and the lightest load of Win 748 in the Hornady manual in the "Handgun" section for the 14" TC Contender. The bullet was seated to the recommended OAL for that bullet which is a long way from the lands.
I shot all 50 last Monday and everything went perfectly. Cases look as good or better than the factory Federal 7-30's I paid a fortune for. I am not recommending my procedure just passing on what worked for me.

I have always bought new 30-30 cases and run them threw the 7-30 die. Never had any problems.

For the best accuracy when necking down a casing, I would true the necks up with a neck trimmer.
If the neck after sizing is thicker on one side the bullet will not release evenly.

i have a waters and have not made any brass but i was told
to do what tcman said he did so that is my plan it worked for
him and others.
