need a Deer bullet for 6mm TCU - 01/19/2010 7:19 PM

Not really a pistol issue as the T/C sports a 21" barrel in 6TCU
its for my daughters first rifle none the less bullets only going tobe traveling 2700 fps and all I can find are varmint type bullets or high velocity types for the 243 win. The bullet would be used on smaller blacktail here in washington.

Both of you are right on the money. I called sierra today and the guy there said the same thing. I do have some speer 85gr BTSP but Im not sure what the operating velocities are on that one. guess I'll pick up the sierra's.

I like the Nosler Ballistic tips although I haven't used them in that cartridge. My wife and I have a whole lot of blacktails under our belts and most have fallen to NBT's and Partitions. I'm letting my daughter use my T/C G2 in 7/30 Waters since she likes it more than her Rossi 243 and I'm running a 120gr NBT at 2700fps which is the same bullet I used in handgun format with the 7-30 to take my first handgun deer and it was running 2200. Anyways just another option.

The nosler ballistic tip woks very well. My uncle and cousin have taken many mule deer with that bullet out of the 7-30 waters in 14 inch barrels with drop on shot kills. My uncle also used this set up to take a cow elk at 218 yrds this year and she only took a half a step after the impact.

I used to use the ballistic tip alot back in my 309JDJ days but I found it to be rather frangible and at times unpredictable with shedding jackets and such. Guess I should put that one on the table as well.

YOu were probably getting s lot higher velocities with the 309 jdj then what you get with the 6mm tcu so there may be better results with these bullets staying together.

I would go with the 70-80 gr NBT

If it is a 12 twist 85grs is about as big as you can go If it is a 10 you may want to try a 90gr NBT
