Bench set-ups

Sorry im excited and full of stupid questions so I was thinking I would get them all out of the way. What type of bench rests do you guys use for you pistols? I plan on doing alot of practicing and want to get off on the right foot. Thanks in advance..

single shot or revolver?

I assumed SS, and may very well be wrong.

Got me a new XPfuzzy rest like it a bunch. Still hard to beat Bipod and bag.

The blast from the cylinder on a revolver will tear a bag up depending on where the gun is rested. I can't recall the name of the rest I use, but it uses a y shaped steel rod rubber coated rest for the barrel.

After blasting apart a few homemade and store bought sandbags with my revolver, I tried a duct tape wrap around the bags. I have not ruined one since. You would be surprised how good this works.

the one i use for revolver is hard plastic, made by caldwell, and was fairly cheap. i don't think they make it exactly the same now. anyway, it seems ok.

i rest the front of the frame instead of the barrel. i never like anything touching my barrel.

If you shoot a encore 12" 44mag. on bi-pods. Will it shoot different when held by hand or on a rest, like off a shooting rail in a tree stand

Nope revolvers all gone :(. All XPs now except one Lone Eagle all by its self.

Any Time you hold most revolvers or SP's in a different "MANNER" you should expect a difference in the P.O.I. When working up a load I use a good rigid rest. For sighting in for use in the field I like to shoot the gun in as close to the same "MANNER" as what I will use the gun in the field. In any case, one should shoot a group in a few different "MANNER's" to assure there is a consistant Point Of Impact.

Many years ago Outters had a rest exactly like that one. I made one very similar to it and the guys at our Indoor Range liked it so much one of our members made 3 or 4 that we keep at the Indoor Range. They get used a lot when guys are sighting in new optics on their .22 Handguns, and actually work quite well.

Do you have some bad influences in your shooting/hunting life?

I was shown my bad ways. And once you shoot a XP your done. The light comes on and you start spending more money and time than you should.:)

Everytime I order midway get half of it, Ironmike go over to specilatypistols and find XPfuzzy builds some nice rest. From mild to wild (from cheap to HOW MUCH)
