I bought my first contender today. It came with a 22 hornet barrel with a Bushnell trophy scope, and a second barrel in 22lr (match) with a bushnell trophy scope. The whole package was $600, if I got a good deal let me know. If I got screwed, let me down easy.

You didn't get screwed, by a long way. But, you didn't hit the lotto either. Real good price for a great package. What serial is it? Easy open? They started at 195,000. You are screwed now though, cause any "disposable income" is no longer as you will need to add and add and add and.......

Congrats ;-)

You got a decent deal. However I think you'll have so much fun with the two barrels that the worry of the deal will fade away quickly. s4s4u is right you WILL feel the need to add and add and add, but don't worry, it will get worse with time.

Thanks guys, I'm already shopping for a 38-55 barrel. Not because I think the 38-55 is the best cartridge in the world, I just have a ton of brass and bullets for it. They should rename the contender to the "crack"tender, damn things are addicting. I won't have the serial number until, pick it up in ten days, then I will let you know.

The 38-55 is a great cartridge, right there with the 375 Winny which is one of my favorites. But, no 'Tender arsenal is complete without a 10" 357 Max.

Sounds like you made out alright. All my .22 barrels have been long rifle, not match, but they see more use than all my other barrels combined. I have not priced match ammo but if its close to lr prices you can get in a lot of cheap practice.

The Match chambers shoot cheap stuff really well too. The only real difference difference between a match barrel and a standard one is the distance from the bullet to the rifling. But, I haven't had a 22LR T/C barrel of any kind that didn't shoot well.

"Crack" tender is the truth! I bought my first one in 1979, been addicted ever since and there's no known cure that I know of.....

Sounds like a good deal to me .The Hornet is a very accurate cartridge out of the Contender and a lot of fun shooting varmints with too.
