Load was 330gr LBT style WFN, throats are .432" and bullets are unsized and dropping at .433". Lube was Lee Alox. I live in Africa and the powdeers available here are different from what you use in the U.S. but going from the picture of the primers does that look like high pressure to you?





To me the primers look like they are flattened and show signs of engraving from the firing pin shroud. I did ream and uniform the primer pockets though, but just enough to show a clear bright ring of brass before seating the primer, the primers didnt look like they were seated too far down.

Also whats with the lead splash around the case mouth...what would case that, is it a problem?

The primers look fine. Maybe a lead ring shaved off / pushed up, and left at top of case as as you seated bullets?

Thanks for your reply 500, I dont think I shaved off lead I checked to make sure I had belled the cases enough...but maybe it was internal and therefore not seen?

I made up some Felix lube, so will try that on the next batch and see if there is a difference on the lead wash.

Also the dies Im using are RCBS carbide, they come with a spacing ring the instructions say should be used when sizing Magnum length cases. What im doing is bottoming the die on the shell holder and then backing up the die a half turn so there is a slight gap between shell holder and die...is this enough for the Magnum case or should I back it out more? Am I oversizing the case maybe and thats causing the lead wash problem?

The slight gap is fine, but not necessary. That's not the cause.

No over pressure there. I think 500WE hit it on the leading.

Do you know what alloy you are using?

Make the boolits smaller so you can just push them through the throats with your thumb and even .431" will work fine.
They might also be way too soft.

The primers look fine to me and as long as your cases eject without having to pound them out you should be fine.A good chronograph also helps in identifying high pressure because if your in the ball park with what the manual says you should be fine but if your several hundred ft per second over you'll know it with the chrono and then you can adjust your powder accordingly.

Ok thanks guys for the feedback, Sawfish Im using wheel weights, but I dont know exactly what the alloy is made up of.

I'll try resizing to .431", and hopefully that will sort the problem out. Thanks again!

The lead wash at the mouth of the cases is not unusual when firing cast. Sizing so you can push them through the chamber throats with your thumb ( 430man ) is a good suggestion, or .432 or .431 may help, as previously mentioned. The markings on the primers are from the recoil shield of the frame, not a problem. The chronograph is an excellent suggestion, if you have access. I've used Lee alox for many years and I am very happy with my results. 430 prefers Felix and he has had a lot of experience. Also Felix is cheap and easy to make.

I've used the Lee alox with good results,I have the "star pattern " on the end of the barrel indicating the lube is working as it should.I really coat the bullets heavy so that it doesn't burn up like 430man says is happening when he tried it.

The primers look fine. They're not even flat and you don't have any backflow. And you said the cases don't stick, either. John Williams is right, though, about the chrono. I chrono mine every time I switch to a new powder lot, just to be safe. That's $100 well spent.
