Anyone tried Hornady Lever Evolution ammo in their Contenders? What were your results if you tried them on animals.

I have tried the 160gr. F.T. 30-30 ammo out of my Contender and it shot great. I don't know what the velocity was but sub MOA groups were the norm. I have not taken any game with them.

I have used the Leverevolution ammo on paper and animals in TC Contenders chambered for 30/30 and 35 REM. The 160 grain 30/30 chronographed just shy of 2100 fps in a 14 inch barrel while the 200 grain 35 REM did 1950 fps in a 14 inch barrel. By comparison Federal 170 grain 30/30 Hi-Shok does 1950 and Federal 200 grain 35 does just over 1900 fps in the same guns. Accuracy with both Hornady loads is outstanding with sub MOA achievable. I have shot one groundhog and one small deer with the 35 Leverevolution ammo and while that is hardly a comprehensive test when compared to the Federal load I have used on upwards of 50 animals the bullets showed much less expansion. Perhaps they would do better on larger animals but I prefer the terminal performance of the classic roundnose. The 30/30 is a different story. The Leverevolution loads are superior to other factory loads in all respects. In preparation for the HHI antelope hunt I shot out to 300 yards and the accuracy is unreal and the trajectory is manageable and flatter than even the Hornady calculator predicts. The bullets expansion is perfect at the velocities achieved in a handgun. I have shot 3 deer,a coyote, an antelope and numerous groundhogs with the ammo in a Super 14 Contender and the results have been impressive as the animals dropped with violent expansion and exit wounds. This a doe I shot at 218 yards with the 30/30. Without a rangfinder at the time, I held for 200 which is 5 inch drop from a 150 yard zero. I carefully squeezed off the shot knowing this was stretch of the cartridge. Man was I amazed at the sound of the impact, how quickly she dropped and how much damage was done to her lungs even at the reduced velocity. Try it, I know I love it.

I shot a Warthog with Leverevolution 30-30 and a Kudu with 45-70, 325 gn. Pics are in my braging board albums.

Don't confuse shooting with hunting.
Shooting is a game, hunting is a sport.

I wonder how the 30-30 LE ammo would shoot in my 30-30 Ackley?

As for the 35 caliber LE ammo, I have shot it in my Marlin levergun. This stuff is like the hammer of THOR on deer.

Finally, I have a large stash of 35 caliber LE bullets and they shoot very well in my 357 Maximum on paper with excellent groups at 50 yards using an Ultra Dot 30mm.

My next mission is to try them in my 15" 357 Herrett. I wish they had a boattail design like the 30-30 LE bullets.

Keep the pictures a coming gents. I appreciate them. Gives me hope for the fall when I hope to take my first big game animal with a handgun.
