shot one without a muzzle brake and open sights. recoil was pretty stout with hot 240 xtp loads.

I don't know if my grip was not correct or what, but after 3 shots the trigger guard had bit me pretty hard and drew blood on my middle finger's knuckle!

did not shoot it for accuracy though. was just plinking

this was after shooting hot 45 colt and 454 casulls through it. they were pussy cats compared to the 460

Yeah it looks like a beast even with a break.

Jeffx hunts with one. I'm sure he will answer your questions.

Adding on to that... IMHO... Big bores require a different grip in TC’s. I have had to learned how to hold my Encores and Contenders differently. (Shooting both of them differently, not shooting one different from the other.) I use to shoot with my off hand underneath the trigger guard. Easy with a 7-30 Waters, but not with 270 Win. Just trying to stay consistent, I have changed my grip. It took me a while and a lot of time with snap caps to get comfortable with it. But I don’t have to worry about my off hand bleeding anymore.

asquires2,

I do have a Custome Encore 15" barrel in .460 S&W
and she is a beast , but there ain't much that walks that with
the right bullet and weight you can't kill! My .460 doesn't have
a muzzle break, I dnt care for them IMO cause of different reasons
my gun liked the .275 gr Barnes bullet the best and it does a great
job on Hawgs, Deer, Bears! I have tried most all the different weights
and Brands, the heavy the bullet the better my gun likes it. I havnt
had much luck with the 200-240 gr stuff.
IMO, the recoils not bad, but I dnt mind recoil, I had a bad
accident in 2004 left my shooting hand with a lot of damage
so I don't feel it as bad as some do, but the ,460 is a Handful!!
If you are planning on trying one, IMO you won't be disappointed
but I would recommend a muzzle break and start with smaller loads and work
up, get a good scope, cause she is capable of killing
game at long range, I have killed Deer at 150-175 yds.
I hope this helps, let me know if you need anything else

I have a 15" MGM full bull barrel in 460, it likes my 200 gr. handloads . this gun weighs 6 lbs. the recoil isn't as bad as you think, I would compare it to a stock encore in 30/06.
