I saw one at the NRA convention in Pittsburgh, I wasn't impressed. It looked and felt "cheap". But, at it's price point I don't know if anything else would be possible. I would like to see H&R come out with a "Handi" pistol though.

I don't care for the grip angle at all. It is fairly obvious that they just stuck a handle on their rifle and called it good rather than putting some consideration into pistol ergonomics. And I thought the Encore had a long reach to the trigger.

Rod, too.

We can only hope. I think somethng like that would bring a slew of folks into the world of handgun hunting. I would definetly put one or two or three in my collection. At the very least this wizzard pistol will provide a more affordable way for folks to get into our wonderful hobby/obsession.

Wonder if Houge, Pachmyer or anybody will make aftermarket grips for it? I think I might just have to try one of these out.

I too have thought a NEF Handi Handgun would be a good, economical way to intruduce more Handgunners to the world of Handgun Hunting. In looking at the photo of the Wizard the very first thought that came to mind is I wonder if my Gunsmith Roger could make a new grip for it that actually would be more comfortable. Then I wonder what the length of the barrel is and went to the second link and learned they are 12". I would consider trying one in say .30-30 Winchester or even .308 in a 12" Barrel but am thinking a .22-250 or .243 need more barrel length.

Kind of different but who knows, until you actually shoot it you don't know. I have one of there youth rifle sets with a 243, 20ga, and 22lr barrel and it's a great starter gun and I think as was mentioned before it's the same frame. The biggest thing I don't like about the frame I have is the safety. I say if it allows more people to get into the sport than great. What will happen is if they shoot it and like it then they will step up to a T/C so they can have more calibers. I'd say it's definitely funny looking and an entry level gun but I wouldn't write it off yet.

I am not certain whether touching off an unbraked 12" 243 Winny with that grip configuration would bring more new shooters into the sport, or send them running for their mama ;-)

Come to think of it a 12" 243 with that shallow of a grip angle would be a little hard to control. I could see some cut fingers in the future. COME ON H&R!!!!!!!

I looked at Rossi's website, they also make a 22, 45/410 pistol as well. its got the same grips as thier big double action revolvers. I think the barrel on the 22 is dorky looking very much badly. It kind of looks like a corn dog stick with sights on it.

I'd like to add my two cents worth....
Price point is good....grip configuration is bad. A hunting handgun for youthful shooters has to fit their small hands. I've got small hands and I'm not sure I could conquer that grip/frame configuration.
