After putting in for a couple of years I drew a bighorn ewe tag! The unit close to my home and several others were closed to hunting this year due to die offs from sickness. The unit I drew in is only about 150 miles away. A lot of folks wouldn't get too excited about a ewe tag but I love sheep hunting! All the thrill of hunting sheep without waiting 30 years to draw a ram tag. I was fortunate enough to take a ewe in Colorado about ten years ago with a recurve. The tag is good for both archery and rifle season but I'm still undecided on what I will use this year. If I don't get one during archery I'm not sure if I'll use a muzzleloader or centerfire handgun. I'll have to wait and see what weapon is grabbing my attention at the time.

I've been playing with my muzzleloaders for the last few months. I just built a .54 cal Lyman Great Plains Rifle kit (posted under the "Off Topic" forum) that I might use for this hunt.

Congratulations pab1, that's great news! You did a great job on your .54 GPR build. I lack your skill and patience so I bought my .50 caliber GPR fully assembled. I love the way that it shoots and how effective it is on game. It would be awesome to take the ewe with either the handgun or the Lyman GPR. What handgun would you consider using if you decide to go that route?
At any rate, congratulations again and good luck!

I rushed my first kit but took more time on this one. They are great, accurate guns! What handgun would you consider using if you decide to go that route? Right now I'm thinking I would use either my 6" FA .454 Casull or my 7.5" .44 Mag Old Model SBH. I might even use the .54 cal Plains Pistol I built if I can get a shot within 30 yards. It shoots good groups out to 50 yards with 45 grains of Goex 3F black powder, a .530 ball and .018 pillow ticking patch. I need to adjust the rear sight slightly but you can see where I hit this 8"X2" piece of wood on two consecutive offhand shots at 50 yards. It will break clays at 100 yards with suprising consistancy, but loses too much velocity for big game at that range.

Pab1, it'll be real cool if you get it with your plains pistol! Congrats on you tag!
It takes 43 muscles to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger squeeze.
