I was wondering if any of you shoot gold dots in your 44's and would like to know how they would work on whitetail deer?

Thanks,

not used them yet....but should work fine. most any 44cal bullet will kill a deer. some use light 180gr, some 240gr, some 300gr or heavier.......jacketed or cast. use what you want and maybe you will find something you(or the gun) prefer. any 44 bullet will kill a deer.

+1

Figure out what bullet shoots best our of your gun and use that one. Even the lightest of .44 slugs has enough "umph" to take down even the biggest whitetails.

Also don't be afraid to go heavy! My .44 SBH Hunter really loves 320gr slugs and shoots them much more accurately than anything else I have tried.

They have been very accurate in my 10" and 16" Contender barrels with 296. I have not found a load that gives the accuracy I want for hunting in any of my revolvers yet. I have not taken any game with them so far. Its my favorite handgun round, but it seems like an opportunity never presents itself when I packing a .44 mag. The stars must align when I carry a .454 Casull!

JR,

I haven't used them in my 44's, but due to a shortage of XTP's in .410 last year, I got a fair amount of use out the GDHP's in my .41 Mag with great results on both hogs and deer (4 hogs and 1 deer in the last 9 months). I would assume that the 44 cal Gold Dots should serve you well on deer.

Good luck and keep us posted!

I have loaded the 270 gr GD FP for my 44 and get 1 1/4 groups at 50 yds 19.5 grs of H110 and a magnum primer. One of the members has used this bullet to take deer and elk and found them to be to be a fairly tough bullet but maybe he will chime in and you can info from someone who has taken game with them.

The 270s perform very well on deer. They will destroy coyotes

I've used the 270gr gold dot soft points on whitetail (2), from a Super Blackhawk Hunter. Clean holes straight through. Much like a heavy hardcast. Hollow points may produce a more impressive wound channel, but I will take a complete pass through any day. They shot well in my pistol and filled my freezer. Good luck to you, whatever you decide to use.
