Well, I've decided to put a brake on my SRH ,7 1/2",cal. 454. Which one do you folks believe offers the best performance? Thanks...Greg

I have a Reeder brake on my 475 Linebaugh that works great! Installed by Gary; $150.

This is the brake that Magnaport installs. This one is on a friend's .454 SRH. It works well, but I have to warn you that it is extremely loud.

I have a Magnaport brake on one of my FA 454s. The other has no brake. Both are 7 1/2" bbls. While there is a felt difference in recoil between the two, I would not install another on one of my 454s.

You might consider SSK. JD has always performed good work for me. When he built Roberta's 6.5 bbl, I explained her problems with arthritis in her hands. The brake that he installed makes it feel almost like a 22 rimfire.

I was just wondering what grip you have on that gun. If it is the Lett brand with wood insert that used to come from the factory you might want to try the Tamer grip from Hogue. It turned my SRH 480 into a pussycat. A brake is a last resort, IMO.

I agree completely. I have Tamers on my .475 and .500 Linebaugh SRHs and they made a world of difference.

I install the Shrewd brakes which is either what Reeder is using or copying kind of like copying the 50 Bowen for his 510GNR. I charge 75.00+ shipping (which Reeder and Magnaport also do) on single shots and most bolt guns and Revolvers start @ $100.00 since the barrel needs to be removed. The SRH seems to have some issues with the barrels being overtorqued which requires care to keep from damaging the threads so they can be a little more if they don't want to cooperate.

older topic, but I'll comment. The grips make all the difference, but I have a FA83's with the SSK arrestor, that makes it a one handed pussy cat. I have also had Reeder do a 5 port MNP like to one and it keeps the original look of the gun, with great improvments in recoil. These are on .454's and .475's, but make a real difference. If you dont need extreme penetration, just make some handloads that are a little milder. I shoot 480's all the time in the Linebaughs and still get full pass thru shots on large critters, as well as down loaded 45lc's in .454's. You want enough gun, but if your shooting too much gun, your accuracy and confidence may suffer too much.

I like Harrel's best for my rifles http://www.harrellsprec.com/. Most smiths can't make the brakes, for what Lynnwood can sell them for. I going to add one on my 35 Rem TC barrel. And they make the BEST powder measure.

They have a new type, with top ports only. They gave me some to give away at my egg shoot this year. I have had many different brakes, Harrels work as good as any I have used. I can get them installed for less than $100.

I would consider the 4 port Magnaport cut into the barrel. A muzzlwbrake on a revolver is just butt ugly IMHO, and kind of defeats the purpose of an easy carrying unit. I have a .45-70 Contender with the 4 port Magnaport, and although I have had wrist problems, I can shoot 400 gr at 1650 out of it comfortably. My wrists do much better with a straight back push than the rolling recoil I get with my .45LC Ruger Bisleys.
Just my opinion. No offense to those of you who see it otherwise.
