I have a Ruger Super Red Hawk, 44 magnum, 7 1/2 barrel. I would like to know what would be a good scope for hunting. My shots will be no further than 75 yards. Any help will be appreciated.

i have a burris 2x on my redhawk. great.....like it well. 21' fov at 100yrds. 2x leupold be same. others like 4x.... will be less fov up close though. bushnell elite variable 2-6 would be a good one. trophy might but less quality than elite.

If your shots will be within 100 yards on deer, I would suggest an UltraDot 30. There are no eye relief issues, nor parallax or FOV issues either. Although there is no magnification, is it necessary under 100 yards? I don't think so.
Rod, too.
Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

If you are new to scopes on revolvers, I agree with either the 2X or dot, depending upon your preference. I started with 2Xs (Burris & Leupold) on all my revolvers & never had a problem with them. I have since moved to 4X Leupolds; however, I believe that a "newer" scoped shooter would be better served with the larger field of view with the 2X.
It's more important where you hit 'em, than what you hit 'em with.

+1 - I have a 2x Leupold on my 1st hunting pistol, a 7.5" Redhawk 44.

2x is not just for the inexperienced, although i'm sure it will make some situations easier for them, compared to higer x's. i've had that 2x burris on my redhawk for over 20 yrs. only the user can decide what "preferences" they have. never cared for a red dot....but then again....just user preference.
kinnda like "quigley"....never said i couldn't use one, just that i didn't have a use for one....lol!

Could never warm up to scopes on revolvers -- too much distance between your eye and the scope, and I could never shoot a scoped handgun offhand as well as I can with a red dot. But, that's just me......

Likewise, I started out with that 2X Leupold on that Redhawk now 20 years ago...and it's not likely that it's ever coming off! I have variables and 4X's on other revolvers, but that 2X has served me extremely well on that 44.

I prefer scopes. The main reason I prefer scopes over dots is: I don't have to worry about a dead battery at the moment of truth. (Notice I didn't say, i don't have any dots.)
It takes 43 muscles to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger squeeze.

I have a Weaver 2x and I really like it. It has great light transmission and it won't break your wallet.

Kinda depends on where you hunt. I prefer a little more mag and objective than 2x in the woods, so I have a 4x weaver and a 4x B&Lomb on my SRH's.
