Ive got some 255 non gas check bullets coming. what powder/powders should I start with. not looking for a super fast load but one that will get the job done on whitetails. I have H110, IMR 4227 and Red dot right now. but could come up with others if needed.

thanks guys

For 35+ years I've used 24.0 gr. WW296 (same as H110) under 240-250 gr. bullets. I've killed a bunch of deer, a bigger bunch of groundhogs, and a few bears with cast 250 gr. non gaschecked bullets. They work great on all angle shots.

This load with 255 gr Cast Performance Bullets is very accurate in my 7.5" SBH w/2X Burris scope. This load is safe in my gun, may not be in yours. Start at the minimum listed charge and work up.

Thanks Whitworth! That is the most accurate revolver I own. I had SSK do a trigger job and add a TSOB mount, other than that its stock. It really likes that bullet/load. It does not shoot groups like that every time out, but thats usually due to a loose screw behind the grip.

One of my favorite "walking around" loads, is 21.5-22gr of IMR4227 under a 250-255gr.
No special, but no ball-buster either. Probably....1100fps? from a 4" 629. Real controlable.
Shoots through both shoulders of a whitetail.

I hope that was a "typo". Did you mean NINE grains?

I was wondering about the 19 gr. of Unique also, because with the .500 S & W 17 grs is the max load under a 440 gr bullet
