First of all hello, I stumbled upon this website a few weeks ago and have been reading alot and have decided to start handgun hunting. Been shooting for years but never hunted big game with a handgun.

The problem I am having is which gun do I want to go with. Ruger Super Blackhawk Hunter in .44 Mag or Super Redhawk in .480? I have had both calibers but just cant make up my mind, so let's hear your opinions.

Thanks,
Robert

Hey man, you gonna shoot that thang or not?

What will you be hunting for?

Both will work, and work well for most anything. Kind of an "either/or" situation really.

And....welcome to the forum! Lots of good information here from folks with a LOT of handgun hunting under their gunbelts.

Dan

I'll chime in, both are great rounds and great guns, you can't beat a Ruger.44 mag ammo is common everywhere, 480 not so much, i handload mine.I would go with the 480, thats just me,welcome and good luck.

Hello,Robert welcome to this site! The members here are very knowledgeable and willing to help. All though I can't help you with the 480 I do have a Ruger Super Blackhawk Hunter in .44 mag with a 4X Leupold scope.Mine shoots 240gr ammo good but it realy likes 300gr to 320gr better.I enjoy shooting this handgun, Good luck on your quest!

John

Thanks, mostly I will be hunting deer in a wooded area and brush. I had a 480 with the with the 9 1'2" barrel but had to let it go. Can get another with the 7 1/2" barrel.

Robert,

Like the others before me have said, either will work admirably for deer sized game...so get BOTH! (this site is great for enabling gun purchases...)

I see that your options as listed include one single action and one double action - so, since both will work, which one do you like/shoot better? I started ou shooting double actions, but my last several purchases have been of the single action variety (see enabling comment above).

Welcome to the site!
