Altitude isn't my personal addiction but it is one suffered by our good friend Mark Hampton. When I say suffered, there is little doubt in my mind that there has been significant suffering involved. Not too surprising, "Addicted to Altitude", is the title of Mark's new book. There aren't many hunters out there who have the abilities to do what Mark has done when it comes to mountain hunting. There are a few who have pursued the North American Sheep Slam and been successful and a few have taken one species or another with a handgun but there are very few besides Mark who have embarked on the pursuit of mountain game to the extent with which he has. Aside from the mental and physical preparation of climbing thousands of feet into the thin air days on end, how many would be prepared to book hunts in some of the most remote and rugged mountains found anywhere on the planet. How about Iran or Pakistan? I for one wouldn't go to Pakistan without a full compliment of Navy Seals leading the way but Mark has done it without much more than the notion that he might be successful in collecting a Ural Sheep or Ibex or some such creature inhabiting the uninhabitable.
If the mountain ranges in Pakistan don't conjure up a mental image, lets mention some of the mountain ranges by perhaps more familiar names like the Himalayas, Alps, Altai and Caucasus. Mark has hunted all of them and more. When you consider the magnitude of these adventures I found it surprising that West Texas was also included but Mark's Aoudad hunt is covered in the book too.
I would love to someday see Mark's trophy room and will no doubt wish the hunting memories were mine but for now, I'll just have to read his book and try to imagine adventures such as those Mark has experienced.
If you too would like to share in Mark's adventures pursuing high mountain game you can order "Addicted to Altitude" directly from Mark. The price of the book is $32.95 including shipping and you can send a check to P.O. Box 108, Summersville, MO 65571. Maybe I can get Mark to post a couple of photos showing some of the game and mountain vistas here to tempt you even more.

Mark has indeed led the way for handgun hunters into the back corners of the world. His handgun hunting accomplishments are unequalled.Yet I believe there is no more modest and friendly man to be found anywhere. I'm proud to call him my friend. Gary, when I last saw Mark's trophy room about 6 years ago or so, he had just expanded it, yet it was almost full...and he's done an awful lot of hunting since then! Time for still another addition Mark? My check will be in the mail today, my friend!

Thank you all for your kind words. I am truly blessed and honored to call so many of you friends. Through the course of my hunting career, the places have been magnificent, the animals fantastic, the experience simply terrific, BUT, the folks I have met in this journey have been a blessing beyond comprehension. God bless you all.
Best of Hunting, Mark Hampton P.S. Ken, I think Karen will kill me if I suggest another addition. Stop by and visit when you can.

Sounds like a good read! I don't know how many times I read Marks last book and his contribution to Hunting For Handgunners. I'll be ordering this one soon too.

Guys, I have really enjoyed my copy of Mark's latest book. This book differs from his first in that it is all about his hunting adventures with very little "how to" information. This is a great read for anybody who enjoys hunting, not just handgunners.
Great job Mark!

Thanks again, Mark Hampton

Hello Mark from a fellow "Show Me State" handgun hunter. My check is headed your way. Glad to see something in print on handgun hunting as those books are rare indeed.

Muddy, Our deer season is not too far off. Got three new food plots in the ground just before the rain. Can't wait for Nov. Best of luck to you this year.
Cheers, Mark

The postal service delivered my copy today and I've already finished it. Once I started, I couldn't put it down. It was like sitting around a campfire at night and listening to the hunting stories I've listened to for 60+ years. Definately a book to add to a hunting library! A great read, Mark!
