i have been practicing lately with this gun in hopes of using it this year for deer season. right now im holding pretty decent groups out to 40 yards or so. ive started handloading to cut costs and try to find a good hunting load. right now i am using a cci magnum primer, 6 1/2 grains unique powder, and a 250 grain hard cast blunt nose bullet. i had just got done loading up some shells when i looked out the window and saw a big groundhog in the field outside my house. i grabbed some of the new reloads, shooting muffs, and my ruger. i made a stalk around and came up on the side of a hill directly below the groundhog. i snuck over the edge of the hill and saw the groundhogs head sticking above its hole. i knelt down, lined up the sights right at the base of its ear and squeezed the trigger. the gun recoiled and the head disappeared. i ran over and found the groundhog folded up on top of its hole with a bullet hole right at the base of its ear. the shot was around 20 yards. i was very excited that i had actually got the groundhog! this accomplishment gives me confidence that i will be able to get a deer this year with the ruger. i cant decide tho if my handloads or factory loaded hornady leverevolution bullets would be better for deer. either way i will keep practicing and honing my skills before deer season. enjoy SS
