I don't have any personal experience with it but for what it's worth I've seen it used on a couple of outdoor shows. Both were on the Glock platform, one was Nugent killing the cape buff and the other were several guys using Glocks with Crimson Trace lasers to hunt hogs. If memory serves me correct they were both using Corbon ammo. I was actually looking it up the other day and they offer two rounds in their Hunter line of ammo, the 180grJSP and I believe the other is a 200gr FMJ. The first was about 50.00 a box and the fmj was about 35.00.

yep, it took quite a few rounds and it's not something I'd recommend. I didn't see how the hunt started I only saw the end where he was being charged and unloaded into it and it dropped. I don't even think it would be legal in most countries as a primary hunting weapon for buff but money talks.

Rod, if memory serves me, he was in Texas and I think it was a water buff. Still a mighty feat for the 10mm.
It takes 43 muscles to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger squeeze.

I was wondering the same thing about the 10mm. I have a Glock 20 I was thinking of trying for deer hunting this year. I have tried Double Tap 200gr. lead hard cast at 25 yards on a full size deer target and every shot hit the vital area. I just got Double Tap's 200gr. JHP and will try out this weekend. If they shoot the same I wonder which bullet would be better at short range (25-20 yards). Any opinions which would be better at that distance?

for deer I'd use the JHP, the 10 has plenty of power at that range to get good penetration with it. You might look at the Hunter bullet I was talking about too. I'm not familiar with the Double Tap product but the Corbon Hunter line is just that and it's a bonded core bullet so It won't just pancake and come apart. The Double Tap may be equal I don't know but the Corbon is another option. If you go for bigger stuff where more penetration is needed than I'd step up to the Hard Cast. The reason I was looking into this cartridge is I finally came to own a Glock only because it was a good deal. I never had an interest in them but this one was cheap and since owning it the gun has grown on me, it's model 22 40S&W. I will probably eventually get the Glock 10mm but I have so many irons in the fire between jobs for customers and my own pet projects. My next autoloader project is converting my 1911 to 460 Rowland.

I shot a whitetail doe about 6 years ago with a S&W 610 at about 35 yards. I was shooting Hornady factory ammo with the 180 XTP's. I hit her right where I should have, (doesn't always happen) behind the shoulder quartering slightly away. She did the high jump, ran about 50 yards and face planted on the run. Great flat shooting round out of that big heavied revolver.

I have a 610 that I load for. If I were considering deer hunting with it,which I am not. I would load the Hornady XTP-HP in 180's or 200's. Per the Hornady #8 Manual a 180 will do 1250 FPS and a 200 will go 1150 FPS with AA#9 or Blue Dot. I have shot a few deer with a 10mm, however they had all been previously hit by cars.

I am pretty sure that Uncle Ted shot a cape buffalo in Africa with his 10mm and if I recall correctly, he used a load from Double Tap ammo.

I have 2 assists with my Glock 20, this is when I used long guns, Hornady 180 gr XTP and the 175 gr. Winchester silvertip factory ammo, very accurate. The 10mm is a good round, choose you're shots and watch you're shot distance.

How would a S&W 610 4" 10mm handle boar hunting? I was lucky enough to stumble across this gun, in excellent condition, at a local gun show in the small town I live in and was able to get it for $658 total which includes tax. I couldn't turn it down. I've hunted boar with my Taurus Raging Bull 6.5" 44mag and my S&W 8 3/8" 500mag, but just don't know enough about the 10mm to know if it would work close range on boar. I'm tempted to do it, but it just doesn't seem like enough dropping power.

How would a S&W 610 4" 10mm handle boar hunting? If you load it to its potential it will do fine, but factory ammo options leave much to be desired. A hot 10 is like a fat 357 magnum.
Rod, too.
Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

Never used the 610 for a hog, but the doe that I shot was with the 610 in a 6". A doe is no hog, but she was 160# dressed for sure. Sold that gun years ago and still wish I had it back.

May "work" or not; but is it legal to use the 10mm for hunting in your state?
Just trying to keep a level playing field.
And By The Way: This applies to "assists" also, in the states where I hunt, which seems crazy; that it is illegal to put a wounded animal down with an "illegal" cartridge...but it is the law.

Double Tap loads their 10mm ammo hot and they have 200 and 230 grain loads for bigger game. Aside from DT, you are right about factory ammo for the 10mm.

Agree on DoubleTap, and Reed's Ammo also loads the 10 hot, but I don't really think of those as "factory" ammo. Was refering to the stuff you can get at your local SG's store, which is loaded more like the 40 shorty and wimpy than what the 10 was meant to be.
Rod, too.

Compared to the household ammo makers, perhaps not. You're right about not finding it on the shelves of your local gun shop, but you won't find a lot of calibers I shoot in any local shops either -- LOL!

Gregg, in new york the 10mm is a legal, and ethical round at moderate ranges. When I use the term assist this implies the killing a wounded animal. here we can use any centerfire cartridge, I hope this clears things up.

We have lot's of woods and farmland in our state, it's not all big city here, most of our shooting is at "woods" ranges, you guy's out west with all the wide open beautiful country have long range shooting and that I envy.

If I remember right he had already shot it with his bow and was tracking it. He thought it was dead and when they walked up to it it stood up and he shot it several times with the 10mm.

There is a very good article in the Sept/Oct 2011 Bear Hunting Magazine that discusses this very topic.

A couple years ago he killed a nice Whitetail buck on his Michigan property with a Glock 10. MN used to have a special exemption for the 10mm due to the length of the cartridge. It will get the job done within reasonable range.
Rod, too.
